I can't say I disagree with that to be honest, but Murray isn't a light welterweight anyway. At lightweight he stands a much better chance of making an impact at world level, although I still feel it wil be an uphill battle for him.

Why is Khan bad mouthing Murray so much? Has Murray been calling out Khan recently?

Why does he keep mentioning a fight between Ortiz and Murray? They are not in the same weight division.

He is making himself seem like a low-class, repetetive mouthpiece for Goldenboy promotions.

We will offer him Victor Ortiz on the undercard of my fight with Maidana. If he beats Ortiz, I will fight him. He’s not earned his name yet. The undercard of an Amir Khan fight would be good for him if we could get that.
That would be great tv, although Ortiz would be a silly fight for Murray to take at this stage.

This could all be to promote GBP.

did khan "deserve" a shot at kotelnik?

Touché monsieur Autobarn, touché. No need for Murray to move up anyway. There are currently four lightweight champions to aim for in Marquez, Vazquez, Acosta and Soto. Most winnable fight I would say is Vazquez. Murray's team should now look at securing some sort of eliminator with one of the sanctioning bodies or they might even be able to convince Vazquez to come over here and make a voluntary.

the funny thing is that golden boy are probably willing to use khan as a pawn in order to get a piece of mayweather - who can't come to terms wit pac - and plenty of PPV sales with little concern for the younger fighter's future or well being.

I think khan would be a handful for mayweather. Bad fight for mayweather imo he isnt as quick as he used to be and you need to be really quick to tag or avoid khan. I think he would win but i think he would end up retiring afterwards.

To be honest though that's not Murrays fault is it? It's like blaming Amir for the wannabe gangsters who say "innit" a lot who cause chaos at pretty much every venue Amir fights at.

Murray has always wanted a piece of Khan in all fairness... but i do think Amir now has good reason to distance himself from such a fight. Different weight divisions and currently operating at a different standard of opposition. Murray needs a World Belt at lightweight or a good couple of wins at light-welter before he would come into radar now.

May not have been a neccessary soundbite but he wasn't exactly lying.

i think the article title is misleading. because khan is basically asking for murray to pack in what he has at 135 and sign up for fights with 2 opponents (probably with rematch clauses), ortiz and khan.

And people wonder why no-one likes Khan!?! At least Murray has gone the 'traditional' route and not ducked anyone.

@winkveron. Look at murrays oposition. 30-0 and not one fight that was not at least 70-30 in his favour before the first bell

Its hard to 'duck' civil servants and black cab drivers

He needs to step it up but at least 3 of the 4 champions are a real handful

Vasquez completely outboxed Prescott and Ji Hi Koon (seplling?) and wouldnt have too mnay problems with Murray. I havent seen Acosta so cant comment and I know Soto is a quality operator who would outtough John

As for Marquez, if he can still hold his hands above his head by the time they fight John with his non-existant head movement will be getting stung with counter after counter after counter

Innit ;)

The Khan/Murray situation is just the penchant for fans to side with the less glamorous guy, but Murray hasn't beaten anyone even close to the world top 10. If Khan had fought some of the guys Murray has fought, he'd have been torn to pieces by the critics, but for someone like Murray they're "learning fights" or "taking the traditional route".

khan was fighting the guys murray fought - lawton - coming off a stoppage loss. murray fought lawton coming off an upset win, over a guy shortlisted to fight khan (gethin).

khan was getting shaken and dropped at domestic level (gomez, limond) - very small lightweights, if they were lightweights at all.

murray has come up without the kind of backing that khan has. it's a british industry geared owards british title fights and EBU title fights for the vast majority of the fighters. khan is one of the haves and murray is one of the have nots. so you can't apply the same standards. it's not about going for the less glamourous guy; the same rules do not apply to the amir khans as there's more financial muscle behind them - it's as simple as that.

murray has done the traditional route. the world level is NEXT. it amazes me how internet ppl ca't comprehend that. a better comparison would be rendall munroe - see how he's got to his title fight. (admittedly, the guy munroe beat for the EBU title was a world top 10 contender.)

so murray is the same fighter as prescott or kim?? you can't just say the IBF champ won't have any problem with murray - you don't know that. vazquez is a bad style matchup but you can't assume that murray loses in the tepid way that kim or prezza lost.

acosta is a better boxer than vazquez, but he is very weak to the body and this would be something in favour of murray, for example.

soto is crafty but carries no punch at 135, may be having problems making the weight as he's considering going up to 140. he's a smaller man than murray.

murray simply isn't on JMM's radar. JMM could cash out over the weight, vacate and it would leave JM a title shot. marquez, having become a PPV fighter, will not fight anyone who doesn't bring money and has gone up in weight before. he will probably fight morales. i'd be surrpised if morales could make the weight, 135 pounds.

given the british fighters i've seen succeed, i'm not so eager to write a fighter as good as murray off. i prefer to look for the pluses as well as the minuses. there are multiple titles and there is always an opening for a good fighter with willingness.

vasquez is nothing special but is a good young improving fighter, definitly a 50/50 fight between him and murray, acosta is very good and has big power but murray would cause him alot of trouble, same with soto! he struggled against the very average munoz the other week! however marquez is just way too good for john, he has a good chance of beating all the belt holders bar marquez, and its not his fault hennessy cant get him world class fights.

What are you basing this good chance on? Who has he fought to make you belive he has a chance against the belt holders

This is like Kevin Mitchell all over again, but at least he had Johansen and Prescott fights that were 50/50 on paper at least

He needs to fight a romanov type (is this guy stil alive?) or a quality gatekeeper who they can bring over because he needs to start building his profile now.

David Diaz would be perfect, Juan wouldnt be bad either. Ji-Hoon Kim would be a fun fight. I ahvenet seen Leonartd Zappa but he is fighting Hoon-Kim and if he comes through that he be a good fight. Unless he has Danny Green/Mundine levels of popularity it shouldnt be difficult to bring him over

The reality is he will just tread water, protect his '0' and get his WBC shot

he clearly wants to fight the best! but he is being held back by his promoter, what do you expect him to do?? and what makes me think he has a chance against soto, vasquez and acosta is that they are not special fighters like marquez, murray easily beat everybody in britain and looks easily the best in europe so he is ready to move on, murray vs soto would be a classic! murray is tough as nails and has the will and stamina of a champion.

you could also say the same about the people who come on here and ask frankie to speak to his fans about there behaviour, whyy cant people just go to a boxing event yeah fair enough have abit of banter with khan was in the arena but their was no need for that thugish behaviour..

Wrong weight class, why be Golden Boys bitch?

Khan never deserved a shot when he got it so how can he justify his comments?

Of course Murray doesn't deserve a shot at light welter, considering he's competing in the lightweight division. If there's doubt whether he would beat title holders at lightweight why would he move up a weight and especially fight one of the best straight away?

And people wonder why people don't like Khan
