I have noticed alot recently that there have been many up and coming prospects who start off the pro game well and suddenly just never box again?

Does anyone know why the following have never boxed since?

Ian Wilson - southpaw - camden town - last boxed 2007 and last fight knocked out Henry Castle? Undefeated
Jimmy Gilhaney - Newmains - last boxed in 2006 - Undefeated
Stevie Wier - Paisley - Saw this guy as an amatuer and a pro...started off undefeated and hasnt boxed since 2008
Mark Hastie - Motherwell - Once again a good amatuer and good start to the pro game and not seen again...last boxed 2007
Ian Millarvie - Hamilton - always touted to be the next best thing at heavyweight but often dissapears for 3-4 years at a time. last boxed 2007 (however i hear he is making a comeback on a months time...anyone know the reason for such inactivity? )

there are many more i have seen a similar trend with.

Tommy Gilmour sacked him as he wasn't taking the training seriously and didn't seem to be interested. He had the opportunity to fight in a couple of the Prizefighters and wouldn't do it, so Tommy got bored chasing him around and let him go.

Simon Francis, Sheffield cruiserweight previously under Dave Coldwell.

Neil Dawson, Rotherham cruiser, trained by Chris Aston, who was being eyemarked to take on Francis in a local derby. Both were unbeaten.

Kevin Lear (persistent injury, shame)

Ian Wilson (stopped Henry Castle a while back but then hasn't fought since)

Danny Parkinson (I think) Yorkshire light-middle who stopped Jason Rushton with body shots inside a round to win the Central Area title. Hasn't fought since.

I'm sure Ian Wilson had problems with his back, he used to stand between rounds as it was too painful for him to get up again. I rated him, shame for the lad if he doesnt get to box again.

The standout for me is Mario Culpepper. He may well have been a special talent.

Eddie Corcoran?

Michael Maguire? Think I heard he was taking some time out?

Scheduled to fight next month according to Boxrec.

Billy Corcoran, lost a british title tilt to Johansson, had a couple of keep-busy fights including a nice little 8 round tussle with Steve Gethin, hasn't done owt since then (2007)

Danny Boswell.... had about 1 fight... would have been a beast.. only about 19

Yeh cheers Counter, I remember Sean Hughes running him close before beating Pickering in the fight (or two) afterwards...

was asking about his brother eddie... went off the radar after fight Vassell. He was a decent am, Jamie Cox beat him in ABA finals.

He was a decent amateur from Moss Side who got to the ABA semis, at lightweight (on memory) around 1989/1990. I am sure I read an interview with Phil Martin and Mario got involved in the gang life and drifted away from the sport.

Mike Maguire looked exceptional and is apparently having a year out of the sport; not sure whether he felt fed up or burnt out; he was a great junior.

Dean Hollington was doing well and packed in after a couple of stoppage losses; to Jonathon Thaxton and Chris Saunders. Both those lads were stopped in their careers and came back stronger to do very well. Hollington could've done the same.

Without wanting to be a bore; Shaun Gray wrecked the best lightweight and light welter amateurs as a junior; he seemed to just stop and not box at senior. He'd have done well in the ABA's or as a professional; without a doubt.

Anyone hear of why Stevie Wier hasnt boxed again? He used to spar down at my gym alot of the time. seem him fight as an amatuer and as a pro. I honestly thought he would take the pro game by storm but after 3 fights he hasnt boxed since.

Mark Hastie boxed for scotland in commanwealth and was unbeated in his first 7 pro fights and then just didnt box again?

Jimmy Gillaheny...won scottish area titles at super featherweight and was unbeaten...looked like he was heading places and then again hasnt boxed since 2007?

Thanks for clearing up the Ian Wilson one for me. Such a shame if that is the reason why...seemed to a be a force in the pro ranks and stopping henry castle in his last fight i assumed a title was on the cards next.

The late, great Rudi Pika - Frank Bruno always said he was a 'hard as nails Welshman' was unbeaten before depression got to him and he took his own life.

Tommy Shiels - Fwanks Irish light middleweight hope who knocked Del Bryan from pillar to post but bad hands stopped him in his tracks.

Who remembers Andy McVeigh from Birmingham - a puncher who stopped Neil Simpson on Eurosport and lived above a pub..

And no1 contender for Pat Clintons British and Commonwealth titles - Mark Epton - who went to Sheffield to spar a 16 year old Naseem Hamed and got so outclassed - he packed it all in before his title fight with Clinton.

Kevin Lear, superfeather\lightweight - a brilliant talent, one many am titles and went 12-0 as a pro. Stopped a prime Michael Gomez. Lovely jab, could box of the back foot and attack. Def would have gone on to a lot bigger and better things I feel if he hadn't liked the social life so much, big shame

I think he had eye trouble and had to retire. Was told he was now into body building and had stuck on a pile of weight.

Epton was a class Am&would have done well as a pro&could well have beaten Clinton,but jacked it in after being schooled by a 16yr old Naz(no shame)

Whoever said Maguire i hope your right,last time i heard bout him he was putting a glass in some chaps face in peterboro..bouncers let him&his thugs in a do when it was closed entry&they played right up giving it the big un....
Shame really i thought he could do things as a pro...
