Will any more Brits challenge KONECNY?

really appreciated konecny's beating of matthew hall on the mag 7 bill. this must surely have been the most accomplished performance on that superb show. konecny has proven his class before, losing a controversial war in a bid for sergiy dzinziruk's WBO title a few years back.
anyway, i think rhodes - who pulled out of the mag 7 bill and vacated the title - is konecny's mandatory. could this fight still happen? if rhodes can't get his world title fight, i hope he challenges konecny for his old EBU title. has konecny gone up enough in the rankings to perhaps have a world title elim with rhodes? otherwise it's a very risky fight.
or how about someone like sam webb, who won last weekend and is doing alright on the domestic scene?
will we see konecny bring that title back, and torment the brits, as other fighters like romanov have excelled at in the last few years?

Rhodes is a completely different proposition,Hall was made for Konecny.I wouldnt put Webb in with him yet, though.

Funnily enough I don't think Webb is going to get an awful lot better and I'd be tempted to risk the match primarily because he can build a bit of momentum

I'm biased, but I think Kocecny would eat Webb up. he deserved the nod against Dzinzuruk IMO, so levelswise Webb is a way short.

Yeah agree that it's a fight Rhodes doesn't need at this point in his career.
I'd like to see him back against anyone really, I really liked watching him at work.

latest WBC rankings have konecny at #13. i wonder if that was before or after his beating of hall? maybe he will go up. a good stoppage for an EBU title can often move a guy up. if he gets a higher ranking, maybe him vs rhodes as an EBU title fight and WBC elim rolled into one? (as with munroe-maludrottu and rhodes-moore). if konecny keeps a low ranking, then he is too much risk, arguably. unless rhodes has nowhere else to go, and someone wins purse bids and sky put up a TV date...
i can hope, can't i.

The WBC favour Mexican fighters, always have, always will. Rhodes can kiss his old number 1 position goodbye and has been superceded by the likes of Tony, Pac, Angulo and now Alvarez etc.
He'll never get a sniff of that.

can't argue with that. it does seem to be a waiting game with the WBC, and that's being optimistic.
if rhodes is konecny's mandatory for the EBU title, then let's see what happens with purse bids. are both men in the top 10 world rankings of any other sanctioning body?

Yeah, they are both top 7 (!) with the IBF, Rhodes doesn't appear to be rated by anyone else but the WBO have Lukas in at 5, presumably on the strength of his showing with Dzinz, which is understandable.
I'd imagine he's a fully paid up member of the who needs him club, but he's pretty good and hopefully gets a chance of a run out again over here or another title shot - probably at the WBO title as the WBC/WBA/IBF are tied up with US promoters/fighters.

Rhodes is an evolved Konecny. More movement and angles

rhodes is nothing like konecny.
maybe konecny is an evolved konecny. in that he's quite old but has really developed his pressure and inside game, and shows many subtleties.
let's not forget many felt konecny beat dzinziruk. he repeatedly got past maybe the best southpaw jab in boxing, landing every shot in the book and using some clever angles to land them.
a very interesting contrast of styles, a very tough fight and if rhodes can't drop or hurt him badly early, i wouldn't be surprised if konecny outlasted him. intriguing european scene, and if both are ranked in the IBF as orbtastic mentions, then maybe an elim bout would be enough for both to take that big risk. both deserve to be there, as konecny performed well in the world title fight and won the EBU title emphatically (albeit vs a replacement) and because rhodes won the EBU title via stoppage vs jamie moore, who was in everybody's world top 10 at the time.

I really do like it that it took the Matthew Hall fight for Konecny to get some appreciation and respect. I remember when Jamie Moore was lined up to fight him and people were considering Konecny a warm up or a fomality. Moore was on fire at that point, it would have been a terrific contest close to call.
There's been some good fighters showcased on Eurosport. Konecny being one of them.

'Barn, was it you who asked about Varon?
Terrible entrance music, seems fairly limited, doesn't have great power, speed or variety. Doesn't seem to take a shot either upstairs or downstairs.
I'd be surprised if he takes Macklin more than six rounds, assuming Macklin doesn't sleepwalk.

Tough is not the word. Hope it comes off.
Rhodes is treading water at the moment.
