The Flash was my fav, and do you remember Dyer at the commonwealths?
Dyer never quite had the chin to go with his punch, he still beat some decent guys Wright, John-Lewis, Bryan.

Pat Barrett one of my alltime faves. Liked the Phantom Dyer as well. Anyone know what Dyer is up to these days?

I was never a great fan of Barrett. He was so hot and cold you knew he was likely to bomb in a big fight, and it happened. His lack of reliability pissed me off. Dyer was also hot and cold, because of his chin, but he enjoyed a great run with Tibbs up to the cute Argentine and he never stank the joint out as Barrett could do. His 10-round win over Del Bryan, who had beaten Darren early in his career, is one of the greatest domestic battles I have ever seen. Prince, I know for the Gale war, and what a war, but he was after my time.

Barrett said that the move up to welter was a mistake, making 10 stone used to give him the edge, it made him more intense and he had to work that little bit harder to make 10 stone.

Pat Barrett was a good fighter, you don't win the EBU title if your not - but I never thought he would win a version of the world title. He was hot and cold and relied so much on his power.

Years ago when in his prime , someone gave me a tape too watch of ALL his fights , the improvement was there from fight one too the finish although i think he became a bit to hook happy to off beaten the elite at world level , definetly had the goods though. Met him a couple of times and seemed like a real freindly genuine nice guy

When Barrett was at his peak the light-welters was a very tough division, ruled by Chavez

I remember that Barrett-Galloway clash, but what was the thought process going in? Did people think Barrett would do him?

I thought he would knock him out if he caught him.
I remember thinking of Pat the way I thought of Benn. I didn't want him to rely solely on his power, but at the same time it was his greatest strength.
The other similarity with Benn was the skinny legs, which I always thought contributed to his lack of punch resistence.

The Galloway fight had been cancelled a couple of times before, i think if Barrett had fought Galloway when he supposed to of done the 1st time, he would of won.

Yeah, Pat was a good fighter and is a wonderful guy, got loads of respect for 'The Black Flash'

Pat can also dodge a flying chair with the best of them.

Absolutely, part of my reason why I didn't think he would a world title.
