Oldham's Shinny Bayaar defends his British flyweight title against unbeaten Paul Edwards of Liverpool in a battle of youth versus experience on the Martin Lindsay-John Simpson bill in Belfast on December 15.
The remarkable Bayaar, a pro since 2000 and for so long the avoided man of the eight stoners, never lost faith, kept in shape and finally won the British title at the age of 32 with a bruising split decision over Stoke brawler Chris Edwards late last year, a title he retained with a draw against flashy first challenger Ashley Sexton this year. Bayaar finished strongly both times and looked worth a win against Sexton, who like Edwards went in unbeaten.
Fights are now coming thick and fast for the gritty, clever, stiff-hitting Bayaar, originally from Mongolia, a southpaw to boot and a man who enjoys years of experience on the promising but relatively untested Edwards, a 24-year-old former ABA flyweight champion who turned pro just two years ago and is 7-0 (1).
Nevertheless, the challenger has ability as he showed with an impressive six-round decision over former British super-flyweight champion Andy Bell earlier this year on away turf in Nottingham, in just his fifth pro assignment. Edwards, one of a host of Scouse youngsters bursting through the ranks, has all the moves and hits sharply. He didn't look great in outscoring Sheffield's Anwar Alfadli in his last outing in May but the man known as "The Smiling Assassin" came through on a bad night and we can expect a fit, fired-up, bang-on-form Edwards in December.
However, Bayaar has a good chin and plenty of stamina. To beat him, Edwards will have to outpoint him, having never travelled further than six rounds. You begin to wonder if this crack has come a bit too soon. Yes, Bayaar is cut-prone, tight at the weight and has probably seen better days, but he is nothing if not cute and rugged, and the most likely outcome next month is a hard-earned points win for the champion.

I don't know why, I love fighters for doing it this, but somehow it rarely works in the long run. Adrian Stone was pretty successful but there have been lots who actually went back trying to do this. Alex Arthur is the one that comes to mind.

Alex Arthur chopped and changed trainers all the time though

Craig Mcewan is constantly over there would be good to see abit more of him on these shores to see what hes made off against the British divisons top boys

Agreed mate would be good to see what hes like now, think hes around 19-0.. He says he wants a World title fight at Easter Road ............................. Anyway getting back to the Simpson fight, really hope he can do it over there... Its no secret John boxes better away from home than he does at home... Should be a cracking fight.... How do you all see it going???

Fair assessment Bennie, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with the outcome.

Bayaar's performance against Sexton showed me that being a skilled, cute boxer in the mould of Sexton is not quite enough to deter the sustained attacks of the marauding Mongolian. In Edwards, Bayaar faces a super-fit pitbull who will be able to match the intensity and workrate that has brought him domestic success thus far.

Edwards beat a clutch of top names whilst sporting his beloved Salisbury vest and he was able to do so by using an effective combination of skill and strength. The latter attribute is what let Sexton down and I can envisage Liverpool's Smiling Assassain making the same mistakes.

I'm looking for Edwards to be able to call upon his extensive vested background when skill is required and to also use his big heart when Bayaar will eventually test it.

This fight will be a story with chapters favouring both excellent boxers but I feel the happy ending will be enjoyed by Edwards.

He's a proud member of the Vaughan camp mate.

You often see him invading the ring whenever one of their fighters is victorious.

Should be back before the end of the year. He's in training at the moment and is hoping he can be fast-tracked towards title class.

I'm really looking forward to Simpson V Lindsay and would've went if it hadnt been for the wife's protests. I hear that John is ready to go to war in this one as he knows a loss puts him in difficult position and theres also the lonsdale at stake. Simpson is seasoned away from home and has a granite chin. If only he could bang a bit more!

Let not forget Lennox Lewis and he was pretty successful i believe. Tony can only come on from this. Tommy Brooke is one of america best and underrated trainers. But then you the fans will be the judges are a few fights

the sparring will be tougher than most of his fights so far, if tony doesnt suffer from himesickenss to much then this will only be a good thing
