KARL PLACE – The lightweight prospect gets an opportunity to showcase his talents this Saturday on the undercard to the British title fight between Gavin Rees and John Watson. The Clayton boxer will have one eye on this as it will not be long before he is banging on their door.
KENNY ANDERSON – Steve Wood has wasted no time getting his new signing a title shot with a deal struck to fight George Groves for the Commonwealth title at the MEN arena on the 13th November 2010.
TONY QUIGLEY – Is back in the gym and was expecting to box Kenny Anderson on the 26th November in a final eliminator for the title he lost 12 months ago to controversial scoring . He will now box on a VIP show in December and has his fingers crossed that the Board do the right thing and make him mandatory for the winner of Paul Smith and James Degale.
CARL DILKS – Will also be back on the VIP December show and boxes Donovan Smillie who has phoned up with the challenge.
ASTLEYVIP – Congratulations to the new amateur club who in their 1st year have got boxer Andrew Flemming in the CYP junior national finals , we wish him well.

Why wasn't Quigley given the shot against Groves? Is he relying on the board to install him as mandatory for the British?

He's got no chance. He's only back in the gym now because of Anderson pulling out!

I'd have put money on him not making that fight. It's only 3 & 1/2 weeks away and you say he's just back in the gym now.
How do you seriously see the board viewing things?
A. A fighter who lost the title after a lucky shot at it in the first place over 15 months ago and hasn't been seen since.
Or
B. Groves/Anderson - 2 unbeaten and ACTIVE fighters beating better kids on the way through, making 12 stone every time.
Or possibly
C. Degale after he loses his first crack at a title
All 3 deserve it more than him.

Do you intent to keep the title while you wait for a shot at Stieglitz or let it go?
I'm in favour of lads hanging onto it for as long as they can..... it's not pass the parcel after all.
McDonnell should have kept his British title, can't understand why he let it go.

I want the belt outright. That was the plan from day one. There's no reason why I can't see that through.
If I get offered a shot at a WBA or WBO title then I'd be a fool to say no in favour for a British defence.
The main reason fighters let it go is for opportunity. If you're on for example at a lower weight £10k per British defence. You could get £20k for a European defence easily but promoters won't pay £20k for a British defence at the same weight for that fighter. So they vacate the title with lesser earning potential.

Donovan Smillie for Dilks eh, i was wondering what happened to Smillie.
Could be an interesting one for a few rounds, see if the DeGale loss has taken its toll on Carl. A few years ago Smillie was a decent boxer, i remember him giving Thirlwall all he could handle for 9 rounds. 4 years out of the ring might not of done him much good though.

I dont know what on earth is happening with Quigley he needs to get in the gym go down to middle and get a run of fights together then challenge for the British. He was due to fight Samuels? on the Haye Ruiz bill since then he could have had 2-3 fights at middle and be right up at the top of the mix. Now he is left in limbo AGAIN waiting for the possibility he might become mandatory. He needs to just get out there and fight

Good luck Cral, and thanks for giving a reply to my post.
Hope preperations are going well for this fight, Although Smillie has been out for 4 years, he was always a capable performer, he should give you a good fight.

Jamie let the British title go cos the European title is a much bigger title with a much bigger purse, and had a voluntry defence of the European which would bring him twice as much as he would have got for the british title.

Fairly unothadox, wears big shorts- shouldn't be operating anywhere near the light heavy limit- was only a welter when chinned by OJ Abrahams. Pretty tidy boxer back in the day- not the type of fighter who will benefit from inactivity- you should be too good for him Carl, but must set a good pace.
