Question for active old fight film buyers...

I haven't bought any old fight films since the '90's...
I'm curious about whether the new digital technology has been used to 'up grade' old films of inferior quality...perhaps the same way they 'digitally remaster' old music recordings??? Is this even possible???
Anybody have any info on this before I go looking for a couple old fights I'm interested in???

Well it's definitely possible to up-grade old fight films - DVNR ( digital video noise reduction ) cleans up pictures, making them sharper, getting rid of grain, blemishes, scratches etc - also sound can be cleaned up to - sonic cleaning they call it...
I don't know who's doing this, but you'd think it was defintely on the cards - Jim Jacobs collection would be the place to start - I see espn and now Eurosport show his stuff.
Hopefully we'll see the DVDs appear soon

I believe that ESPN bought the rights to the Jim Jacobs collection...which I think was merged with another collection.
But...I was reading (in the forum of another boxing website) a number of posts that ESPN was "hoarding" the bulk of the collection. Can't figure out what purpose that would serve...(You'd thing they would be better off marketing them, playing them on TV, etc.)...but a number of those posters insisted that ESPN had another agenda due to the 'value' of some of those fights...seems to me that there would have to be a great demand from the general public to support this idea...seems to me the people who buy old fight films are die hard boxing fans...are there really enough of us to drive up the 'value' of an old fight film that's been 'hoarded'???

I read in Boxing News quite a while back that these films were being sat on and neglected by ESPN..... the reason seems to be a mixture of ignorance and greed... ESPN thinks that the majority of the public has little interest in watching the old fight films but at the same time they think that by hoarding the films they will drive up their value and be able to make more profit when they sell to some high rolling boxing film collector......
