Tyson asked how he would done against Haye?

Mike Tyson Asked How He’d Have Done Against David Haye, Had He Met Him “In Your Timeframe”

By James Slater - Recently, before Sky Sports TV cameras, Mike Tyson was asked his opinion on Britain’s WBA heavyweight titlist David Haye. “Iron” Mike was asked whether he agreed with Haye’s boast that he can bring “the glamour” back to the heavyweight division. On this score, Tyson said he ain’t sure, but that from Haye’s most recent performances he doesn’t think so. “But things could change,” the youngest ever world heavyweight titlist added.

On the subject of who would have won, had Haye met Tyson in Mike’s “timeframe,” the 44-year-old became more animated, if only briefly..

“I’d like to think I’d have beaten anyone in my timeframe,” Tyson said, adding that his ego makes him think like this.

But when thinking about how the fearsome “Kid Dynamite” would have done against the former cruiserweight champ, my gut feeling tells me Tyson would have had a relatively easy night in his prime. But what do you guys think?

Sure, Tyson was never a huge heavyweight, and Haye has overcome a monster in the form of the colossal Nikolai Valuev. But would Haye, a fast fighter himself, have coped with the blinding blend of speed and power that the 21-year-old Tyson had?

Imagine the two meeting; with Tyson being the version that destroyed Michael Spinks and Haye being the version that outfoxed the lumbering but massive Valuev. Both guys would explode from the starting blocks and the fireworks would begin. But they’d have been brief, wouldn’t they? Haye can bang, yes, but on the peak Tyson’s level?

Back in the day, his day, the only guys who lasted a significant amount of rounds against Tyson were: A: big guys who could tie him up (Bonecrusher Smith), B: fast guys who could box and punch and who had a great chin (Tony Tucker, James Tillis), or, C: exceptionally tough guys who could take severe punishment (Mike Jameson)

Isn’t it fair to say Haye fits none of these criteria? So how could “The Hayemaker” have dealt with the peak Tyson? Yes, he’d have had something of a puncher’s chance, in that he might have landed a perfectly placed bomb early on. But if Tyson were able to walk through his best shot and keep threshing forward, what then? Would Haye’s boxing skills have helped him; would he have been able to go into hit-and-not-be-hit mode and frustrate Tyson? It’s unlikely.

No, at some point, probably early on, one of Tyson’s frighteningly fast punches would have exploded on the chin that lesser, slower fighters such as Jean Marc Mormeck and Monte Barrett have exploited with their less powerful shots, and the end would have arrived for Haye.

This is not to say Haye is a bad fighter; merely that he would have been no match for the peak Tyson. But then, Muhammad Ali, Sonny Liston and George Foreman aside, who would have been?
Tyson would have Knocked Haye out in One round!

The writer asks, aside from Foreman, Ali & Liston, who would have been a match for a peak Tyson? Prime Larry Holmes no doubt, more so than perhaps the other three!

Prime Tyson would steamroller Haye - expect David would admit as much being the honest type he is.
Agree that a prime Holmes would have beaten Tyson. Can't make my mind up about prime Lewis versus prime Tyson, but lean towards Tyson.

Tyson would KO Haye early, Haye hasnt got the chin to survive Mike's shots

Tyson would have destroyed Haye. Let's not forget, Tyson had a great chin as well as unbelieveable punch power therefore I would be surprised if Haye would have been able to end it with one shot. As for what would happen if Tyson connected, which he would, well we all know the answer to that question. Complete mismatch in my opinion. I think Vitali would have had a chance against Tyson but he'd have knocked Wladimir out.

Would have been a great fight but I'd sway towards Tyson because of his power and Lewis's chin which wasn't the best. Prime Tyson v Prime Bowe would have been unbelievable.

I'd like to think Haye would have a puncher's chance against any fighter who's style consisted of rushing in, not a prime Tyson though.

I don't like to look at that as a 1 fight deal. I could see either man winning if they fought 10 times, each time being a fresh slate.

Tyson was overrated. Prime Lewis v Prime Tyson would have been an identical finish to when they actually fought.

Haye would more than likely get beat by Iron Mike but Haye punches hard enough to floor anybody, so its beyond the realms of possibility that he could beat anyone on a good night.

Prob showing my age and era I was brought up on boxing - but for me, Tyson at his best, would have beaten any prime heavyweight champion.

What other heavyweight champion could knock opponents out like a prime Tyson?

You don't have to KO your opponent to win the fight.

Vitali Klitschko wouldn't have beaten Mike Tyson. Vitali would have been a punchbag.

Riddick Bowe would get knocked out by Mike aswell.

What makes you say that? Has Tyson unbeknownst to the boxing community beaten men of this calibre in the prime of their career?

Prime Tyson would beat any fighter from any era in their prime - only Ali, Holmes and Lewis would offer any genuine challenge. Haye wouldn't last 3 rounds with prime Tyson

What about Liston, Evander & Foreman? Was Tyson really so good that these men could be ruled out entirely?

Even a washed up Tyson absorbed a hellacious beating from Lewis, who was the heaviest of punchers before finally capitulating. Tyson had an unbelievable chin, his weaknesses were mental not physical.

Tyson was so fast in his prime, and Haye's long looping shots would have left a lot of openings. Haye feasts on slower opponents, he's yet to face a fast heavyweight.

Vitali Klitschko

Who did he ever beat to suggest he'd even compete with Tyson?

He'd be iced inside three rounds.

People bang on about the likes of Floyd being considered an ATG despite having a weakish slate.... yet Vitali is 10x worse. His biggest fight is a KO loss to an old, fat, shot Lewis.

In mythical matches against the top 20 or so of all time that version of Lewis might have a winning record...... might. And Vitlay still lost.

But he beats Tyson?

:shame:

Nobody but nobody would have blasted Vitali out like that. Not saying he would win, but Vitali is a very very tough and awkward customer. I also doubt Tyson could have intimidated him.

Vitali would have 9 inches on Tyson and he has a great chin. Tyson would have a lot of trouble even reaching Vitali's head. He never fought someone that big who could take a shot that well, not to mention plenty of guys worse than Vitali made it past three with him. No way Tyson "ices" Vitali in three. Lewis was about the same size as Vitali and he did not simply KO him in a cakewalk. Vitali was more than holding his own, so it's not like he was easily defeated. Vitali also took some monster shots and never went down. Predicting the outcome of a Vitali-Tyson fight on the Vitali-Lewis fight doesn't work well, imo.

I just don't rate Klitschko that highly.

Sure, he's tall, awkward and has a good chin..... but who has he beaten?

I'm not the biggest Tyson fan and pick plenty of fighters over him H2H - including Lewis, Holyfield and Bowe - but all three are superior to Klitschko in most departments.

Vitali vs Frank Bruno - there is an interesting, 50-50 fight. But the great HW's of the 90's?

Please......

Regardless of what shape Lewis was in when he fought Vitali that uppercut would have left most heavyweights needing to be carried out of the ring whereas Vitali carried on coming forward.

Nobody would have destroyed Vitali no matter what era they fought in, outbox him? Yeah. Stop him? Fair enough. Destroy him? somebody is having a laugh.

With regards to how Tyson would have done against Haye, I think the Tyson who fought Lennox would have beaten him relatively easily never mind the 1980's Tyson .
