Fort William, 2 1/2 hours north of Glasgow in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Scotland's highest mountain, was the venue last night for the Lochaber Phoenix ABC show.
Lochaber Phoenix ABC recently had their club funds wiped out at the hands of a boxing ring supplier. Over £2500 was paid and no ring ever appeared, the company involved no longer exsists and the money was lost.http://news.boxrec.com/news/2010/scotti ... nd-company
In attendance at the show last night was big Del Boy, the British & Commonwealth Heavyweight Champ is currently training there for his World Title tilt with Wladimir Klitschko, former British & Commonwealth Featherweight Champ John Simpson, former Scottish amateur star recently turned pro Michael Roberts, the "Showman" Yassine El Maachi, top coach Billy Nelson and WBO Super Featherweight World Champ, Ricky Burns.
All the guys came into the ring to the delight of the punters and then donated items for the auction which were signed and personalised for the winning bidders. Billy Nelson even offered the chance for someone to visit the Fighting Scots Gym, sometime in the next few weeks, to train alongside Ricky while he prepares for his title defence on the 4th December. That in itself raised £300.
The total raised by the donations more than covered the losses at the hands of the unscrupulous ring supplier and all the pro boxers stayed all night, signing autographs, posing for pictures and encouraging the amateur boxers. Pure class
