Last night at the Hilton Hotel, Roman Greenberg got his 14th straight win, but had to climb off the floor in round 2, when his Latvian opponent Mendauga Kulikauskas floored him with a right hook from his southpaw stance.

Greenberg didn't look hurt, more embarrased than anything, but it does raise questions over his defence. He looked very leaky, and as he admitted to me afterwards, had loads of problems with the awkward southpaw stance.

Nevertheless he came through via a cut over the Latvian's right eye. Greenberg was well on top at that point and on was on the verge of stopping him anyway. The Latvian, although suffering a nasty cut, was looking for a way out.

Any other fights on the bill, GITR?

i know james Zikic from the peacock was fighting, not sure who else.

Zikic, who weighed just over 14 stone for the fight against Stewart West's 13 stone, looked the lot stronger and more powerful of the two from the start. West was flashy, and tried to be Roy Jones at times, but looked very small compared to Zikic, and despite getting through at times, didn't have the power to hurt the big Canning Town fighter.

Zikic was upright, took a few shots and was jumping in with his head a few times early, but soon settled down in the 3rd and caught West with a cracking overhand right that shook West to his boots. The fight was all but over then. Zikic, stocky but plodding at times, bullied and bloodied the nose of the shaken up West, and the ref jumped in at 2 minutes 18 of the 3rd to rescue West who was being mauled in Zikic's corner.

thanks. Zikic is a tough MF. he does kickboxing, thai boxing, ultimate fighting... you name it.
He was London ABA heavyweight champ in 2001 though, beating Ian Lewison, so could do something if he dedicated his time purely to boxing!

A sign that the rumours about Greenberg's not so excellent chin might be true?
Or just an unlucky flash knockdown do we think? Is it on the Beeb?

Haye, Harrison, Arthur, Gammar, Greenberg etc Lol Carl Froch had better be on his guard next fight if he intends on making more progress. Seems chinks are appearing in all our best prospects at the moment, Ricky Hatton BEWARE :P

Is reply to whether his chin is sturdy ... it's hard to judge from that knockdown. It was literally just a solid shot that landed, Roman was sloppy and he just went down. He was straight up though and didn't look hurt or shaken at all.
He took many other harder punches during the fight though and took them well. The problem is, he shouldn't have been taking them in the first place.

One thing I neglected to mention was that Greenberg's right hand was covered with an ice pack after the fight. He'd damaged his hand a month before the fight, and had still taken the fight!!! He had hoped it had cleared up, but then it went again in the first round. He's going to be taking a couple of months off.

I think Roman could do with a rest, he is certainly keeping himself busy which is a good thing IMO. Like Skelton and even Audley of late, the best way to combat ring rust is to keep active of course. I don't know how some of the top guys can manage to fight only once a year?
