I am a sucker!

I am!

I thought Audley would make good his boasts.

I even got up at 5am here in China to watch this shit.

I should have known better, I like to think I am an astute fan when it comes to boxing.

But when it comes to a British heavyweight - I am a sucker, I knew Haye was the favourite and with good
reason but I wanted Audley just to back up his motormouth at least once.

He was like this as an amateur though - if any of you remember his long, meandering letters in Boxing News.

I suppose I didn't pay for it though. (if I would have been back in Blighty I would have done...)

fornicate this - I am going back to bed!

I too believed Audley would give it a go - I guess he was just looking to the pay day. Whatever anybody says. He did earn his money ... without his BS the fight would never have sold :(

Does anybody think it was an exciting fight?

This was always going to happen the way it did.

Harrison has never beaten a top 20 Heavyweight.... and didnt deserve the title shot.... he was totally out of his depth.

Harrison can talk a good fight... and people just got drawn into that

You are not the only one who has been suckered in by Audley Harrison. Ring Magazine was were also talking him when he was 17-0 as the next big heavyweight star and they had him on the front cover and all that, so even they get it wrong as well.

I had ZERO interest in the fight from the outset, only disdain. I fail to understand though how it managed to get 700,000 PPV's and set a new British record. That utterly amazes me for what was on the face of it a big ugly pile of sh*t.

That's not really fair.

I for one believe that he was going batter her, but then decided to take his foot off the gas & cruise to a decision.

I heard he demanded she take a drug test.

The casuals push PPV sales up and keep the trend of putting many so-called 'big' fights on PPV, if they fook off, and take their expendable dough with them, then the powers up at Sky may look at the figures and decide that they can no longer justify putting any fight with a bit of public interest in it on PPV.
I agree that this could be the one saving grace of the fiasco. The only problem is that I don't have a lot of faith in the public and wouldn't be at all surprised if the public bought into the hype again. Afterall, millions of them are again religiously watching the annual quest for a musical superstar even after Joe McEldry's triumphant failure.
That was pure irony, I know people who watch X-Factor all the time and bought the Rage single to "show Cowell that we won't put up with their shite" :-? :KO:

It beat the British record? No wonder Warren is livid.

King Geedorah wrote:Forget about the fact that Audley went out and conned hardcore, I.E. 'knowledgeable', fans using the medium of TV, the Internet and mags. What I really need right now is rich tea and sympathy after sending a deposed African prince my bank details so he could put a coup into place. I lost all my money in the process and have yet to receive my red sash and 'Grand Vizor of Nigeria' title.

Moreover, there is still no sign of a coup and I googled the name of the country he emailed to me, Abbadabbadoshy, and cannot find it on Google maps. His email addy, 'DearfriendoffakeAfricanpeople' is no longer working and I'm beginning to suspect that he was appealing to my innate white-liberal guilt and weakness.

I fear that I may never see my money again but am publicly admitting to my mistake and demanding a refund as I'm sure my fellow Boxreccers will not judge me as stupid for falling for this scam and will give me the sympathy and comfort required during this difficult time.

As for Haye versus Audley, they said it would be akin to gang rape, and a large amount of people did get f*cked, against their will an' all by all accounts, judging by the indignation going around. So how can we say it was falsely marketed?
Well - pardon me for daring to raise my ire in public! We can't have that now can we? This forum all week is for all the 'told you so' mongs who want to take credit for picking an overwhelming favourite against our favourite carthorse.

I didn't pay any money - I didn't pay one red cent (or Yuan... whatever) here in China to watch Audley get knocked on his arse. However - I got up at 5am to watch him fight Haye because I believed in him - not totally, not blindly - but in the manner of a frustrated dad wanting to believe his deadbeat son is kicking the needle and the spoon and straightening his life out, in the manner of the fiancee who will get her big day at the altar even after her finace has been shagging around for years upon end, in the manner of the kid with the stig clothes getting his shiny new BMX from his deadbeat dad - who gives a fornicate if it might be stolen or knock off? As long as you get it - the end justifies the means - in this case moreso.

Ten years ago - I got up a goddamn O'clock (like you did as well..) to watch Audley bash up some Uzbek in the olympic final in Sydney and from then till now - I have been a fan - I have (and you too) have probably written more words in defence of Audley Harrison than I did in my final dissertation - no, scrap that - I have probably written more words defending Audley Harrison than in all my four year degree essays combined. It has nothing to do about money, do you think money can buy all that time in believing in him? Wasted listening to his big mouth telling us what he is going to do? Defending him when others say he is a bag shit? Only for them to be proven right after all?

I am not against fighters getting knocked out early - Pat Cowdell against Azumah Nelson - I don't think many bet on that in hindsight - it happens, we all know it happens. But for Audley to land just one punch in three rounds is pathetic! It turns whatever thoughts and sympathies you had with Audley being cast as the prodigal son onto it's head and I suppose into it's rightful place.

All anybody wanted was for him to make an effort. Try - like Richard Dunn did against Muhammad Ali! If that doesn't put me on the higher level of understanding of a boxing God like yourself then so be it - not one more minute will be spent defending Audley Harrison from now on - he gets all the flak he deserves in my opinion.

Life has been kind to Audley Harrison - he will go back to America to his pretty wife and cute daughter and live out the rest of his life in relative wealth. So in the end - whatever we say on here won't affect him too much as he paddles around his swimming pool in the California sun.

I completely understand your frustration, but what possessed you to think that Audley Harrison wouldn't get comprehensively slaughtered?

I know anything can happen in boxing, but this was Audley Harrison & he's got form, so I am flabbergasted that anybody could reasonably have thought that that fight was going to be anything other than a farce in which the totally over matched Harrison would eventually succumb to Haye without David breaking sweat.

I suppose Harrison's oratory skills are very persuasive.

Well I'm no sucker - I'm a supremely gifted prognosticator. I swaggered out of my office on the night of the fight, reassuring those less gifted than myself that they need not worry that Haye was "too light", for he would smite the putrid Olympian in three or four rounds. Of course, I was not so sordid as to sully the golden issue of my talent by placing a bet in the house of Mr Ladbroke - one of several dens of filth that lureth lost souls. A fie on mammon, for what sweeter reward can there be than confirmation that one knows the future?

Once again, I will swagger away from my dazzled co-workers in December. Ringing in their ears will be the prediction that the warrior from Finchley will prevail in seven of your mortal rounds against his turnip-skinned opponent. For prognosticators such as myself, the future has already happened.

I think it gets to a stage when you support a fighter as long as I have supported Audley Harrison that you hope for the best. You don't want to turn your back on him in his biggest fight because you want the feeling of vindictation after all this time - the feeling that you were right all along, that you backed a winner and not some carthorse that goes arse over tit at beechers brook. He has the talent and he has all the physical attributes so that sort of cemented it. It is OK to say on here 'Yes, I back Audley' but if someone had said to me 'Back your house/wife/health/years salary on Audley winning' And there is no chance I am going to do that. I have nothing against him losing or losing early because many fighters do. I don't have anything against him 'freezing' on the night. (He didn't by the way - he just knew he was going to be outclassed and rather taking a gamble and using his size, strength and speed to overturn Hayes natural fighting ability - he gave up!) I am just pissed off because after all his talk - he won the battle of the mouth in the media against Haye - he always does! He just gave up.

How can you land one punch in three rounds? How does a man of Audley Harrison's skill contribute so little in the short time the fight lasted? It's a complete joke! If Audley Harrison was an idiot - like Charlie Zelenoff - it could be forgiven - but Audley is a very intelligent man and thats why he wins he verbal battles on TV. If he was like Damon Reed and didn't have the size and skill to fight at the top level then that would have been forgiveable too - the facts are the reason he is getting egged today is all of his own doing and I am washing my hands of it. 10 years of supporting him and it ends like this! :witzend:

On the Saturday afternoon of the fight I was talking to my da about the Haye-Harrison fight and told him that I had ordered the ppv. He is a casual fan, used to go to the fights years ago - but watches boxing now and again on tv.

Anyway, as soon as I told him that I had ordered the PPV he immediately said "Sure yer man Harrison is a tube - he wont do anything, Rogan beat him. Haye will bury him easily. Harrison is rubbish".

So you're not going to get the ppv I enquired?

He looked at me as if I was deranged and just said "What?".

So, that is at least one casual boxing fan who had the good sense to see right through Haye-Harrison matchup and didnt buy that shite.
