Maybe someone could answer this,why does the wbo and ibf belt's have eagles on them?what is supposed to symbolize ?I don't get it

In regards the IBF, the reason the IBF broke away from the WBA was because Bobby Lee ran for the presidency of the WBA only to be seconded by Gilberto Mendoza. Bobby Lee - who was against the WBA sanctioning fights in apartheid South Africa felt there was a pro Panamanian, pro-South African bias in the organziation which was also anti-American so he took his ball away and formed the IBF which is more pro-American, hence the eagle on top of the belt which represents America!

The real reason Bobby Lee broke away from the WBA is because he is a thieving, money grabbing pudendum - just like Gilberto Mendoza.

What happened was Alba that Bobby Lee is a black man who ran for the WBA presidency 4 times. The South African boxing board who were still run by white administrators were big shots within the WBA and they didn't want a black man in charge of the WBA who would in turn put in sanctions against the South African boxing board. So Gilberto Mendoza had a strong alliance with South Africa, Argentina, Venuzuela, Puerto Rico and Panama, back in those days - the WBA had their favourite countries and would rank fighters according to the country they fought out of. It was very rare for a British fighter to box for a WBA title until well into the 1980s. The WBC had their sphere of influence which was Mexico, Great Britian, France, The United States, Canada, Italy, West Germany and Japan but were based out of Mexico City under the Mexican Jose Sulieman. The WBA as mentioned had their influence in most of Latin America and South Africa but they were based in Venuzuela under Gilberto Mendoza. So the IBF became the first American based world governing body headed by an American - they got support from the Australians and the South Koreans and Indonesians but most of their world title fights involved Americans.

At the time, the IBF was welcomed by the American boxing media such as 'The Ring' magazine - who didn't like the fact that a couple of Latin Americans had hold of the reigns of all world title boxing. They felt that their interests were marginalized.

Britains first IBF world title was between 'The Casbah Kid' Najib Daho and Australias Barry Michael - they wanted to fight over 15 rounds but the BBB of C got their way and was scaled down to 12 rounds. First IBF title fight to be fought over 12 rounds if I am correct.

cheers mate its amazing that someone staning up to apartheid ,really spurned the start up of a sanctioning body .What happend with the WBO and they setting up ,there set up in south america aernt they ....

I assume the Eagle represents American based, Puerto Rico being part of the USA.

as for the wbo being american ,is puerto rico american / i thgiought it was independent .,

It's self-governing but an overseas territory of the US, along similar lines as what Gibraltar, Cayman Islands etc are to the UK.
