Shropshire boxing star Roddy Doran is set for a shot at Damon Hague's WBF middleweight title in the New Year after pulling off a remarkable success over the Derby hero in his own hometown. Doran pulled off a stunning 10-round points victory over Hague in only his 11th professional fight at the Storm Arena on Friday night.
The bout acted as an official eliminator for the WBF super-middleweight tile held by Robin Reid.
But rather than risk a clash against the dangerous Reid, Doran is likely to opt for a rematch with Hague in Nottingham in February or March, but this time with the WBF middleweight title on the line.
A delighted Doran, who remains unbeaten as a professional, said: "I am not going to make any rash decisions over the next few days about where I go from here but I have a number of options and if Hague wants a rematch for his world title then he can have one.
"I have worked so hard for this and it is the proudest night of my life.
"The fight went exactly how we had planned in the run-up to it and I would like to thank my trainer John Humphries and my manager Dave Bradley, as well as Errol Johnson for getting me into perfect shape for it.
"I always felt I could compete at this level and it is a fantastic early Christmas present.
"He threw everything he had at me and I took all his shots and I thoroughly deserved to win the fight.
"My supporters were absolutely sensational and I would like to thank each and every one of them for roaring every punch. It was a massive help.
"I will now have a few weeks off, enjoy a bit of turkey over Christmas and sit down and decide what I am going to do next.
"But it was a great night for me, a great night for Shrewsbury and a great night for Shropshire and one I will never forget."
The defeat was only Hague's third of a 23 fight career, but the Derby puncher refused to accept the referee's 96-94 scoreline against him.
He said: "I am very honest and if I had felt I had been beaten fair and squad I would hold my hands up.
"But I honestly think I have won this fight by a couple of rounds.
"I came out in the last round to look busy and try to wrap it up and I can't believe the ref has give the decision to him.
"But I will be back and I am well up for a rematch."

Am I the only one that thought that this was a classic BS decision? I had Hague up by 3 rounds!
Anyway Doran was pretty good, deceiving hand speed, good overall boxing skills, and as somebody else pointed out correctly Hague made the mistake to adapt his style to Doran's

No, I've heard others say the same, Dutch. The referee Terry O'Connor is good mates with Richie Woodhall (they go fishing together), and Woodhall is goods mates with Shropshire sidekick Doran. Not that I'd ever accuse a referee of being biased!

I watched it today i did think Haugue just snatched it...But hey congratulations to Roddy
