AUDLEY WANTS SKELTON

audley is well up for exposing matt skelton, yet all of frank warrens threats and shit talking are unsurprisingly bullshit.

as is often the way with warren, he calls out big names for his fighters (calazaghe, hatton et al) and claims they're being ducked, and time and again the reality is warren is making no attempt whatsoever to contact the big names.

he has never so much as even called audley or his manager.

this allows him to keep milking his fighters and matching them carefully against bums.

Has Audley said he wants Skelton?

Just read it now - I'd take Harrison to ko Skelton in a couple of rounds - Matt still fights with his chin up in the air.

Anyone who has seen Skelton and Audley and thinks Audley wins is crazy.
The guy ran to the states to avois these guys, if he fights Skelton in 2004 win, lose (this would happen) , or draw I will eat my hat.

Skelton is fighting about every 2 weeks, after his last fight , some bum that went 6 with harrison, skelton did him in 2 or 3 rounds....after it Skelton said he does not want these matches and would prefer better opponents.............

Audley gives us BS about stepping it up etc etc etc

Henry Cooper does tend to drivel on about other boxers nowadays as if he used to be the 'be all and end all' of heavyweight boxing.

One of the most over-rated boxers I can think of....

allegedly was on Talk radio about 3-4 weeks ago, and he said live on air that Audley had been in contact with him about getting a fight on with Skelton.

As far as I am aware Audley manages himself, the talk sport crew asked Warren what it was like to deal with fighters direct instead of their managers.

The fight will happen early next year imo.

Interesting fight if it happens, I don't think Audley went to the states to avoid these guys at all. He went there to get his face and his name seen on American TV.

Why is everyone always harping on about the British boxing scene, as if it is the be all and end all of being a British heavyweight, if i were Audley Harrison, I would rather go stateside, work my way into the public consciousness, and then take on some American challengers with decent records, than risk getting stiffed by a domestic fighter with no rep global at all like Williams (never be a player on the world scene again IMO) and have my ambitions limited there.

Audley isn't taking on any big challenges thus far, but let's just rewind shall we, remember Danny Williams assault on America? Who did he fight over there, Shawn something or other, some part time boxer who was also a bouncer or something, tiny little guy who loooked like Michael Flatley with muscles.

I really don't understand why Audley is getting it in the neck so much, he's still a relatively untested pro, I mean, I was critical at first, but I don't think there is anything wrong with Brian Nix as a next opponent, honestly I don't.

hmmmmmmmmm i love some of the logic being used here!!

if skelton can whack out a few stiffs 2 rounds quicker than audley then skelton is gonna knock audley out!! yay!!

skelton is a limited, chin in the air banger. he's made for a more all round boxer like harrison. allegedly will have to eat his crow.

anyone who says audley was running to the states really doesnt get the point at all. i guess he should stay in britain like scott welch and danny williams et al and advance his skills and experience absolutely nowhere?

I agree with overhand, common opponants do not always provide the best basis for a one on one match.

Foreman Vs Ali is an example of this.

Skelton has a pressure style, but i feel even the likes of audley would be able to box there way to a decision, but of course this is boxing, anything can happen.

Class would tell.

Audley has the class, Skelton doesn't. It's patently obvious that Skelton is just put in with a bunch of pastries to knock them over and look agressive doing so. If he tried the same tactics with Harrison he'd end up looking bloody stupid.

I'd go as far as to say, if these two met 3 or 4 fights down the line it would be a mismatch.

Harrison would stop Skelton inside a few rounds.

Overhand - it is too simplistic to say whether "going to the States" is going to advance Audley or not. His opponents have been very weak so that doesn't give any indication. The real question is what has he been doing over there, if he has been going to top gyms and getting sparring he couldn't get in the UK, well done to him.

I genuinely want him to do well but he needs to step up in class soon - the Nix fight will tell us nothing.

Audley seriously needs to fight some live opponents before he fights someone dangerous like Skelton, don't forget that Krence and for a moment Matthew Ellis had Audley in brief trouble and they are midget Heavies. Skelton's opponent record so far cannot be faulted as he has stopped Draskovic and Mike Holden while Harrison has not fought anyone like Holden and didn't stop Draskovic. If Skelton can take a punch then i take him over Harrison, he is busy and straight forward and packs a punch, what's Audley going to do when he fights someone who actually hits back? We will have to wait and see.

Notice how Audley says 'all it takes is a phone call and signing for the fight to be on the BBC'. This would be the hardest part. As far as i know, Audley isn't contracted to anyone, so he should be able to fight on SKY, but the fact he insists it being on BBC may suggest there is some sort of deal. And as we all know, Skelton is part of SN and their fights are on SKY. This will be the most obvious and biggest problem.

However i think Warren wants this fight more than Audley and i got the feeling that he may be willing to work with the BBC on this one.

Hope it happens, 50-50 fight in my eyes. I dont see Skelton as anything that good, but he certainly has size and power, and an aggresive style that would give Audley a hard time.

I would lean towards an Audley KO, he's better technically and has enough power to KO Skelton who in his K1 days was seen to have a suspect chin himself.

Jeez not back to the old Ali Foreman thing.......I and everybody else that watches boxing know that styles make fights!
Skelton has less pro fights than Audley and I think he looksmore impressive, that's the point I was trying to convey.
I don't understand some peoples point here, James you say it's a good thing to go to America????
I do think it's good AFTER you have conquered the British and European scene then yes, you're ready to go forward.
You cannot just go to America for awhile, fight some terrible stiffs , then back to UK.......................and expect to clean house.
I personally think that Harrison has been duping the fans, hes a gold medal winner and more is expected of him.
I say Skelton will KO him, Audley is not used to getting hit.
Harrisons competition is an absolute disgrace, I know he has fans here and I'm not trying to wind you up, but the guy does not seem to want any sort of challenge.
If he has had all the quality sparring in the states and after 13 or so pro fights he should be able to take out the likes of Hide and that cumbersome plodder Samil sam (euro champ), even Williams who was trashed by the turk.
If he's not ready for this then he should at least fight maybe a Sprott ?????
If the fight is signed with Harrison and Skelton I will put quite a sum on Skelton to win with any of the people here who think that Harrison has too "technical skill" for him. Skill is good but balls are also needed and Audrey is flat out!!!!!!!!

I would be surprised if Audley isn't taking advantage of the hugely superior quality of sparring available in the USA, and you cannot overestimate the worth of that. Ok, Nix isn't a great opponent, but I'll tell you this, he's better than Holden.

I for one, do not give a damn whether or not he conquers the UK, it hasn't done Danny Williams, Sprott, Keith Long et al much good has it? The British heavyweight scene sucks, and has for a long long while now.

I would rather see Audley succeed on the world stage, than get bogged down in the domestic scene, which seems to be qucksand for an ambitius heavyweight. Admittedly, Lewis and Bruno paid their dues, but I think the British heavyweight scene was a lot stronger then than now. Lewis didn't spend ages lingering in British fights either, in his second year as a pro he went to the states to fight Mike Weaver, and after that osscilated between the UK and USA.

Happy to take your money if it comes off Biff.

I take the piss out of Audley's opponents too, but it's par for the course for an up and coming heavyweight: nothing too threatening for the first 20 fights or so...
And if you think he should be going in with a puncher like Hide, or Sam at this stage, then I don't think you'd make much of a matchmaker!

Audley might not be used to getting hit, but nor is Skelton either.
Harrison will catch him coming in I think...

He's 6.5 with an 82" reach - anyone know Skelton's height / reach?

agreed, time and again biff makes these ridiculous posts that expose his limited knowledge of the game.

biff is another of those simplistic posters who let their dislike of a fighter cloud their judgement.

and whats all this slagging off audleys opponents and praising skeltons??? skelton is way older than audley and fighting the same guys!!

anyone who thinks mike holden and the crew are better than brian nix who has been in with world class heavies and also beaten a couple should be banned from the forum.

danny williams has never even been in with a tough US trial horse like nix and hes been boxing 8 years with 30 + fights.

awful double standards round here.

Don't buy the whole Skelton deal.

He is too crude, raw and slow for Audley IMO. I will also be interested to see (when it happens) how Skelton looks in the 8-12 rounds - he looks so large that he'll struggle to haul all of that flesh around

He hits hard but would still have to land them.

I watched some of that K1 stuff the other night and I don't care how good he was at it - the standard of punching was laughably poor and it means very little in the way of experience.

I'd be surprised if he troubled Audley too much.

Fellas, please some of you are making me feel ill.

The only guys Audley has faced so far that have punched back are cruiserweights. He's proven F*CK ALL. Absolutely zilch.

If he improves enough to make it into world class one day (although how long realistically has he got left to "develop his talent"?) then GREAT. But right now all the questions are still to be answered. ALL OF THEM.

And no I'm not a great fan of Skelton, he'll do well do progress beyond British level but at least he doesn't fight lazy.

Posted: 03 Dec 2003, 09:44

Audley might not have proven much in terms of quality of opposition as a pro, but at the end of the day he is a big, tall southpaw heavy with an excellent amateur 'grooming'

Skelton's wide heavy shots would not catch out the fleet footed Harrison, nor would his bulk intimidate him.

Harrison would win handily. There is no question from my viewpoint.

Posted: 03 Dec 2003, 09:48
by Kilburn
If he proves that he can handle a fit, 18st lump coming at him right from the first bell then fine. So far he hasn't proven anything like that so you can only afford him so much credit IMO, I don't care who the f*ck he is or what he says he's going to be.

Great personality though. No doubt about that.

by jamesmcdonnell
Exactly, Holden wouldn't even get work as an opponent in the states, he has no ability at all, he's just a big lump with a bald head who trudges round the ring getting biffed about, great test he is.

Brian nix is also a damn sight better than Shawn Robinson, that Michael Flatley look alike I was on about.

At this stage of the game, no heavyweight prospect faces anyone dangerous, it's the way it goes. If I was Audley;s manager, not in a million years would I put him in with Hide or Williams yet, both of them are seasoned pros who know every dirty trick in the book, and who have been in and come through tough fights.

Admittedly Audley doesn't have long left to develop, but he sure as hell won't develop by getting his ass knocked out by hide or Williams, which would be a fair bet if he got in the ring with them now.

I think Brian Nix is another perfectly good trial horse for someone at Audley's level but lets not go overboard. This guy represents no danger whatsoever, and wouldn't to Matt Skelton either.

Here's an example:

Derek Amos got taken out by Danny Williams in New York on the Hamed v Kelley undercard. Amos then got stopped 12 times before facing Nix, who could only outpoint him over 6 rounds.

Ah you are one of these people that like to tell others their knowledge is "limited", cause they don't agree with you.

Yes you are the might one around here

All hail overhand right, with his swelling head he knows all..............

To James quote:

Yes James a lot of your points do make sense however, if the British scence is all that bad, all the more easier for Audley???

This guy is 32 , I think that this is as good as it gets.

He may have more technical than Skelton, but force power, going for the kill etc etc are on Skeltons side.

And realisatically both fighters will be fading soon due to age, Skelton first, however we all know power is the last to go.

Anyway we'll do some bets if it ever happens.
Good afternoon gents,+
