Can BoxRec's Howard Daley get a win?

You've got to admire our Howard - was taking a shellacking at heavy and didn't appear to have much future after the Board intervened. With a record of 2-21-1, instead of disappearing he re-dedicates himself and re-appears as a cruiser last week.

OK, he lost a shut out, but he was 40lbs lighter than in his previous contest.

On Friday, he's set to box Issrar Asif (2-0). 'Izzy' is a small hall promoter's dream - he must have shifted around 250 tickets among his pals for both of his fights.

He's no great shakes though - I've seen both of his bouts.

You can do it, Howard! :TU:

Yes he can get a win, hopefully he gets a evenly matched fight instead of being the opponent all the time...

My worry would be that off tv, against a ticket seller, even if he was deserving of a win the ref could end up giving the nod to the fighter who shifts the tickets...

Sad, but sometimes true in boxing

That said, good luck Howard! :TU:

Thanks guys, the answer to the thread title is definitely yes. I'm feeling great at the weight and I'm sure things are going to start looking up. I do love the sport and how it keeps me in shape. I love giving the fans a good show and I'm always trying to win. On paper Friday is my fight. Lets see what happens, the guy is very hittable and he has only really been in with guys who dont throw much because they are out of shape. I'm going to test him and I believe I will break him. Lets see! :box:

Lee has been given the same amount of press from me in the Yorkshire Evening Post as most other Leeds-based fighters and non of them were cheerleading, I report a story as it happens, never have I said "he'll do this, he'll do that", that's not my style (as Ian will tell you), I've just reported what he's said and I've only done three pieces on him in two years (two in the YEP and one on SecondsOut.com).

If you looked at what I've done over the past three years you'll see that Kell Brook, Gary Sykes, Tony Bellew, Ryan Rhodes, Paul Appleby, Rendall Munroe, Jerome Wilson, Nav Mansouri, Curtis Woodhouse, Nathan Cleverly, Matthew Hatton, Gavin Rees, Bradley Pryce, Jason Booth, Gary Buckland, Adil Anwar, Jamie McDonnell, Stefy Bull, Denton Vassell, Anthony Crolla, Enzo Maccarinelli, John Fewkes, Ross Burkinshaw and Tyrone Nurse have all received more coverage from me. I was making a joke to Ian, but as you've got on your high horse I think you've just been proven wrong.

Well I was 'making a joke' too I'm sorry it's led to such a vehement and lengthy response

Sorry, can't tell they way something is said on here. Thought it was another of the anti-Murtagh posts Leonard is always having to fight off.

No problem Wake I've no axe to grind with you or Murtagh I was merely attempting a joke in the same vein as the one you made at Ian's expense

A misjudgement on my part perhaps, it was between you and Ian I shouldn't have got involved

Apologies if any offence caused

Who's Leonard?

MachoMan09 wrote:Howard, what I would say about Issrar is that he moves around the ring quite well for a novice heavyweight and is pretty quick of foot and hand. What he does not do is commit to his shots; he seems somewhat tentative, which is often a sign that they 'don't like it up 'em'. Because of this non-commital approach, he fires plenty of shots out but he is either out of range or the shots that do connect, with either guard or target, lack any level of meaningful power. He has a do at switch hitting, now and again, but I get the feeling it is more for show than anything. He also occasionally flicks a left jab out to the body and when he does his right hand drops miles and leaves his chin wide open.

Stalk him into a corner and unleash, mate. See if he fancies it. :TU:
Thanks for that, I thought exactly the same watching him on youtube. :TU:
