Where now for Andy, will his proposed fight with Vera come forward a month or try and get a fight in early Jan?

There are serious talks of Sergio Martinez in March underway.

No offense to Andy but surely a complete mismatch. Lee hasn't even faced a ranked boxer yet?

Lee would certainly be against the odds. It's not an impossible task though.

Lee is a classy fighter with a lot of skills, but he is well out of his depth at that level. Sergio is a beast right now. Fair play to him if he takes the fight. Lee has never shown a lack of heart and balls, although his managment might have at times.

It's about as close to one as you'll get though. I wouldn't blame him for taking it, of course.

I think he'll surprise people. People seriously underrate him due to his loss against Vera, before that he was probably overrated. Lee certainly won't be jumping head first into hayemakers a la Williams. He fights upright and uses his size advantages. I'm not saying he'll win but there is no doubt he can knock out Martinez, Lee carries a lot of power.

I don't think he carries that much power. And even if he did, he'd have to land first. Martinez is way too savvy for Lee.

Lee has a pretty diverse offensive arsenal. Pavlik couldn't land much but all he was doing was doubling up on the jab ad nauseum. Lee has nice hooks, uppercuts and has really improved his bodyshots over the last year or two. He is competent with both hands too.

It's not so much that people under-rate him, it's more that his recent opposition means his preparation to face the likes of a Martinez is utterly inadequate. If you're going to take on someone of the calibre of Martinez you should be facing opponents who are actually going to advance you in that direction (think McGuigan facing the likes of LaPorte to ensure he was 'battle-hardened' when the time came to face Pedroza).

You're not wrong there, I would have liked to seen him have a Vera rematch, Duddy and someone like Lorenzo or Spada before he took on Martinez but he's been given the chance now and I think he's right to go for it. Even if he loses, he'll know what level the elite are at and can come back and go for it again as he is still young.

Andy is up to no.11 on Boxrec Middleweight ratings, surely a pop at a title is the least expected for 2011?

He may get a "pop at the title" but it won't be on merit...as mentioned above.

He hasn't fought anyone to warrant it.

Martinez would take him to pieces.

they were talking about lee fighting martinez on the boxing truth. man, if lee was over here he would find it hard winnign and keeping the euro title, so fighting martinez is a no no if he wants his head to still be on his shoulders..proper mismatch..this is the problem with boxing, he loses to vera, and vera still continues to be treated as a journeyman..yet lee then copmes back and fights a few bums and ends up getting a shot at the world title!! bollox :shame:

Is it wrong to want to see a Bennie post before I opened this thread, and then be disappointed when I fail to see one?
