From The Independent
"Former British and European heavyweight boxing champion Matt Skelton was jailed today after a court heard he attempted to pervert the course of justice to avoid speeding fines.
A judge at Cambridge Crown Court gave Skelton a five-month prison term and said the fighter had been "arrogant" and thought himself "above the law".
Skelton, 43, of Wilden, Bedfordshire, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice three times between November 2006 and August 2008 after his Porsche car - which had a personalised number plate - was clocked speeding.
The court was told that on all three occasions Skelton falsely named "car valet Brian Williams" as the driver and gave at least one false address.
Skelton, who had initially denied any wrongdoing, was arrested after police concluded that there was "no locatable Brian Williams"."

what a complete pisstake....6 months for basically a motoring offence.....he'd have got less if he'd have been noncing.
'justice' in this country is a joke...he's hardly a danger to society.
anyone know if he had any previous?

I haven't mentioned it because it's too much hassle to go into it but I seem to remember he was in trouble one time over re his mrs and another chap?
Have a look at his record though...he did really well for someone who had such basic skills. I liked him as a fighter though he was in some stinkers.

ulitmately that's what it's for...he's been stupid but surely a community service order or a suspended would have sufficed. hardly a danger to the public is he.

he was great in his earlier fights...once he got in with the best of britain he seemed to find his level.
pity he never got involved 10 years earlier really....he had more heart and fightin spirit in his litttle finger than a-force has in his entire being.

He deliberately tried to evade the criminal justice system. How can anyone possibly think that this does not warrant a custodial sentence?

So everyone who tries to evade the criminal justice system should go to jail?? They say the jails are full now, how would they cope?
There have been coppers who tried to evade their 3 points and they just got fined

A custodial seems harsh, but as Ian said he was in trouble not too long ago for clobbering some bloke

If he had only done it once, no doubt he would have been fined.

Prosecutors said Skelton was clocked travelling at 44mph in a 30mph zone in November 2006 and at 37mph in a 30mph zone and 41mph in a 30mph zone in August 2008
I feel our streets are safer now and taxpayers money have been well spent

You obviously hold the criminal justice system in different regards to most.
Sending somebody to jail for trying to dodge a speeding ticket is ridiculous IMO, if someone is caught doing over 150 mph they rarely get sent to jail and they're a far bigger risk to society than Matt IMO

Dekker et al, Skelton, on three seperate occasions, provided completely bogus information to the authorities. He should have simply held his hands up and paid the first fine and then drove around Bedford and surrounding areas with a little bit more caution - he didn't. I personally witnessed him hurtling through residential areas in his Cayenne, a lovely set of wheels BTW, believe me, if that thing had hit a child at 44mph, it would've been game over. His attitude stunk more than his in-ring clinching and, in my view, the lesson he is now learning is well warranted.

a nonce got done round my way recently and got a suspended for interfering with little boys...because he'd had a breakdown.

I think that the punishment should fit the crime, getting 5 months in prison for telling some porkies to avoid this government tax is using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Not saying I agree with the length of the sentence, but I do hate it when people think they are 'above the law' so in that sense I'm not very sympathetic to him.
