Anybody Else Think Bellew Should Move Up?

It seems he just can not stand up to shots due to the weight. He needs to move up. He has plenty of power to take up with him.
Bomber, get eating!

It won't take him beyond this level in my view.

Do people not realise that they hit harder at 200lbs? Trust me, he'll stay at light heavy. Clev would spank him, too.

Yes, but more meat means more stability. He also has the power for cruiser.

British level, whether at cruiser or LH.

His power is seriously overrated, as is his boxing ability. I genuinely view him as no better than a domestic level fighter.
If he went up to cruiser he'd get badly knocked out as his defence is non-existant at times. Can you imagine what the likes of Frenkel would do to him. Even the fringe world level contenders like Lebedev would take him apart.

His level has been set. If Ovil had even 1/8th of aboxing brain bellew would not have seen the 2nd round

I think he is badly drained at the weight. He will hit harder at cruiser too.

I like Tony, as he is entertaining, he is honest and he is willing to post here.
However that was a poor performance, something he admits. A move to CW might help him?
Tony was hitting Ovill flush with rights and didnt have any impact. The left did, but still.....

14-4 are strong lads shame the old division wasnt around. if haye can make himself strong enough to compete at heavy bellew should be able to do the same.
bellew has shown so much spirit tonight :!: & that strength alone takes him along way.
mr.excitement.

I agree with carl the move up would be good for tony, and he's openly said before make the light Heavey limit drains some of his power, he seems a bit fragile at the weight, but only tony knows how much it takes out of him

the ajisafe fight he was square on & ovil has stopped some big guy's so to get off the floor show's great strength imo.
it does make his fight's even more exciting

My opinions:
the problem over-above the weight is concentration. he's getting hit with stupid 5hit. he got caught with a perfect shot 2nd kd, first one he got a half-push with the right and that nocked him offbalance for a 2nd right hand.
he looked gaunt-ish close-up. Cotto at 140-esque.
but he is leaving his head stationary in stupid fvcking positions. having horrorshow lapses in concentration/awareness IMO
also, i wondered how the warmup went.
mentally and physically, in the early going he didn't look like he was ready for the fight, looked caught cold on several fronts.
but he was facing a bloke who can be mega-awkward.

ps i do wonder if, at cruiser, he would find it much easier in terms of footwork and actually maybe being a decent mover at cruiser rather than a slightly plodding one by lightheavy standards or at least a little bit plodding compared with Ovill. i think at cruiser he'd have decent handspeed and footwork, he'd be fitter stamina-wise i assume, and i think he'd still dig a bit. i think his intrinsic boxing ability is pretty good. it's early yet and i am still positive, actually more so after seeing him in the flesh for the first time.

I think that he could go one of two ways if he went up to 200 - if he can afford a good quality strength and conditioning coach a la BHop, he may well carry the extra weight well (lets face it, he looked pretty drawn at 175) and be a much stronger fighter for it, whereas if he mismanages he may just do a Dead Francis and end up carry 25lb od blubber against bigger hitters.
Another thing he may wish to consider - there are far fewer genuine contenders at the higher weight, so there may be more viable opportunities for him.

I think his chin is fine. The 2nd kd looked heavy at first, but he seemed clear headed and was on his way up as soon as he hit the ground, didn't looked dazed at all, and his legs were solid. (Not that McKenzie bothered to test him after flooring him, but that's what I saw.) Maybe he was caught off balance by a perfect shot, or maybe his chin is just very good.
What Bellew needs is to close the gap faster, work on his footwork and get some sparring with the tricky buggers. As crap as the stoppage was, he had McKenzie badly hurt and I think he'd have forced a stoppage one way or the other.

He mentioned it post fight himself. It would be interesting for his comment on it here. I would also be interested in whether moving up would be a decision he could make himself, or one that would need FW approval due to what we all think is the inevitable Clev fight.

There is heavyweight and then super-heavyweight in the ams.
