now people on here know im not a fan of khan - But now i am

he showed what im looking for , fighting the best , getting his chin and heart tested and coming through it.

i put in another post that i thought maidana would win and would come on if i was wrong.

both shipped a lot of punishment in this fight and it was defo close enough for a rematch

khan took too many punched in that fight , a bit worrying because of the crudness and slowness of maidana , i thought maidana would land a big punch within 6 rounds and end it , thats why i picked him. Other than that i agreed that if maidana failed to knock him out the i expeceted khan to win very wide.

khan never and really faded those last 3 rounds but he stuck it out in a fight of the year.

would love a rematch but i dont think khan will want it hopefully HBO might

great fight and well done amir khan

Given that he was out on his feet for the duration of round ten, I wouldn't compare him to McCall, but he definitely showed a good chin tonight. If he shows this level of punch resistance in the future, I can't see many people beating him, and I think he cleans out 140.

would love to see a re-match , i also think a more schooled precise fighter would have stopped him in that round but he hung on and deserved his win.

khan needs to pace himslef better and work on his defence , thats the 2 things tonight that will worry roach

Yes, his chin is not bullet proof (is anyones?) but he certainly displayed a certain solidness and awareness 'under fire' against a known and respected banger.

I was concerned in the 10th, but he showed me and no doubt others that the kid does have a decent chin to go with his talent. Its not unbreakable and I think he deliberately took more than he had to in order to prove a point but nonetheless, point proved.

Conrats to Amir Khan!!

To be honest, I thought he would win but not in that manner he did against such a hardcase.

Providing the fight hasn't taken too much out of him physically, I think it will serve as a tremendous confidence booster because he (and we) now know that he has got it in him to survive being dragged into the trenches by a world class slugger.

I'm going to disagree with the status quo regarding Khan's chin. Yes he showed tremendous conditioning, courage, survival instincts and strength to somehow remain upright. BUT Khan seemed troubled almost every time Maidana connected and looked fragile throughout the contest, from the opening minute to the last.

Every time Maidana landed it registered down to Amir's legs which forced him to scurry on the back foot to allow his head to clear. I don't see how we can suddenly laud Khan's chin when he was effectively shaken up in pretty much every round. His speed, the big ring and some excellent fighting instincts got him through. Better fighters than Maidana would have cut the ring off, not given Khan precious few seconds to recover and would have clinically despatched him when they had him going in round ten.

I was surprised that Amir didn't go down or fold under pressure, but just because he didn't doesn't necessarily mean he isn't brittle chinned. Against more technically gifted fighters he remains an accident waiting to happen and I don't necessarily think it needs to be a 'banger' who will stop Khan, given just how often he was stunned by Maidana.

What a superb fight though and Khan did brilliantly to come through, I don't want to take anything away from him.

He did not show a good chin at all. He showed the bad chin we all know he has. But what he did show and what impressed me hugely is a very good heart and ability to survive when hurt and skill level that does compensate for that weak chin through ensuring he is not often caught cleanly.

Great skills to be in control of the action
Bad chin and so easily hurt and put in trouble
Good heart to suck up the tough times when hurt
Ability to survive , grab, maul and fiddle his way outta deep waters.

I have in the past hugely put down Amir Khan and his chin and said some strong stuff about him not going anywhere in this sport due to that chin. I totally take that back. Yes I was right about the chin, 100% BUT that man has amazing skill levels to compensate, solid heart and fighting spirit and good survival instincts. Brava

I listened to Mike Costello's excellent commentary on Sports Extra at 7.30. Sounded like an absolute thriller and I was on my feet for half of it, willing Khan to come through all the way.

I understand exactly what Ben is saying - Khan's recuperative powers (obviously founded by his fitness levels) seem great - one could tell that from how he got to his feet after Prescott levelled him.

I haven't seen the fight but from what i've read and heard he dug deep and grinded out a tough victory when he could have easily given up. I don't think many people really expected this kind of result, majority thought it would be a clear points victory with Maidaina looking for the KO but if it wasn't for the knockdown in round 1 then it could have been a very different result. Was Maidaina hurt?

Gutted Khan didn't take a count though, had a few quid on both fighters to take the count @ 15/2

Sounds like you were unlucky mate...Khan showed incredible minerals in the tenth. When Mike Costello said 'There's 1 minute 40 left in the round', I thought he'd had it.

I reckon not having to boil down to 135 have hepled his punch resistance and strength hugely.

Khan has a lovely build for a light welter, and his speed will pose problems for a lot of the top fighters in that division.

Was it just my imagination, or did Maidana try to chin Khan when Khan put his hand out to touch gloves at the start of round 1?

gotta stay at 140 for the time being.

big respect for what he's done since prescott.

terrific turnaround.

I've read that in a few places but to be honest, it's a world title fight between 2 hungry fighters. You touch them up before the bell, after the bell prepare to take a shot

Khan didn't have a problem with it, he slickly ducked the wild hook. Was just something I noticed.

Some of the punches khan took landed very cleanly and he managed to shake a lot of them off although there were also some which obviously left us all on the edge of our seats as he tried to survive for full rounds at a time towards the end.

Most boxers would struggle to land big shots on khan unless they had the kind of style and spirit of maidana which is like a "take one to throw one" kinda mentality. The biggest concern for me was how many uppercuts maidana managed to get through khans guard cleanly!

Khan wasn't perfect in this fight - far from it - but it annoys me that people are so quick to slag him off. Like that 10th round, sure Khan was in A LOT of trouble, but if Khan is supposed to be so bloody crap and chinny, and Maidana is meant to be such a banger, then why couldn't he finish Khan off? Credit where credit is due, Khan dug deep and did what he had to do.

Maidana is a crude fighter really. Leading with the head constantly, swinging his arms wildly. Don't get me wrong, he's clearly no mug and is a decent fighter, but besides a few silly mistakes from Khan, Khan was a league above him.

completley impressed by khan, good performance and proved he can get through tough periods of fights and fight differently if needed.

I don't think khan did box poorley like some people have suggested I just think maidana is just a better boxer than people give him credit for he was great at cutting down the ring and was brave at how he came forward to land his punches. Both boxers deserve full respect and I before this fight I wasn't a massive khan fan and kind of hoped that he would lose to put him down a level or 2 but after that I'm a fan of his and he has proved himself now. I just hope that he don't ruin it by making some stupid comments because my opinion and many others can change quickly.
