The British Press

Why is it that the British press regularly hype up our fighters to completely unreasonable levels.
Reading today that Khan is ready for Mayweather, that Hatton was going to beat Mayweather, etc.
That Khan is ready for Mayweather is absolutely ludicrous, he only just got past Maidana, a good but limited fighter. Suddenly he's ready for the pound for pound best fighter?

The fight may actually happen. Whether he's ready or not is another matter. That his own promoter said he was looking for that fight is where the story came from, you can't blame the press for quoting something said on national TV?

Haven't bothered to read none of today's papers. I never do when Liverpool have been shite at the weekend.
Is it boxing writers/correspondents printing this stuff regarding a Khan-Mayweather fight?

it's there job to do so??
khan's with golden boy & it aint to do with how great khan is, it's the fact khan is the defending world champion let's remember & is being marketed to be in big fight's as he brings a big uk audience with thank's to media coverage

Plus the newspaper boys do like a Vegas jolly and Khan is their only ticket to tinseltown at the moment - or am I just being cynical again ...

Roach and de la hoya think he will be ready next year as well in fact so do i. PBF is on the wrong side of his prime and khans style is all wrong for PBF, khan is faster and more mobile. 1 more top level fight at light welter and he'll be in the ring with mayweather.

i dont think so - its all about timing and they know end of 2011 is the time to do it. Remember were going to be talking about a prime khan against a PBF that will be on the slide.

that would be a lose lose situation for amir , lose to mayweather and he was never good enough to challenge him , push him close or maybe even beat him and it will be that mayweather was past his best and too inactive , at least thats how the like of the boxrec posters would see it , although im sure the media here would fall over themselves to declare khan a legend if he beat mayweather , even if the american came into the ring in a wheelchair and was pissed out his head and handcuffed

Mayweather took every round bar one against Mosely and Marquez.
Cant see Khan replicating that kind of dominance over that pair.
GBP are lining their pockets and feeding Amir to the wolves if they make that one in 2011.

Styles and fights. I fancy Khan's against Mayweather, Mayweather's against Manny, and Manny's against Khan's.

you seriously over rate khan :!: he has the speed to trouble anyone, but his last performance has shown how hard it is going to be for him keeping that belt & you give him a chance against unbeaten fighters who have won at 5-8 diffrent weight's which is absolutely amazing

It would end with a big ppv audience and big dollars for Khan win or lose (losing the most likely outcome). If he lost then so what, he'd only be 25/26 and there would be no shame in getting beat by Floyd.

Are you saying newspapers shouldn't have bothered sending journalists to cover the fight in Vegas?
Do you go to many fights yourself or do you believe boxing is covered better off TV than by journalists actually going?

I disagree, I see it as a no lose. If Khan got beat then it's by the best out there. If he wins then the press will go mental declaring Khan as the best fighter since time began. Nobody, especially Amir Khan and Feddy Roach really care what boxrec posters think.

I support khan as british fighter, but there is no way on this planet he will defeat PBF in next couple of years unless PBF is on the slide which he clearly isnt. PBF is pure class. Khan is good but not in the same league as him.

Not at all gobbles, of course the papers should send them. Fights are always reported best from ringside IMO, but it's amazing how some ringsides are more attractive than others. Personally, I don't report fights at the moment, I have enough other duties and BM has more than enough reporters so I don't take press passes under false pretences - press seats should be for working press only IMO. But if I wanted to report on a fight, I'd definitely want to be there, it's important to me. Others might feel differently.

I think it's great to see so much boxing in the national press as there was this morning. Bodes well for the future.

Just one match where I think Khan's style might work hurlock. I'm not convinced he could pull it off, believe me, but I think that a mobile, fast, busy, in-and-out style built around a solid jab could cause Floyd problems at this stage in his career. Note: I have only ever said I fancied Khan's style against Mayweather, I've never said I think Khan beats him. In the mag, on this site, I've always been careful how I word it. Having the style is halfway there, but Khan needs to show me a lot more before I'd talk in terms of him winning. And the fighter who got drawn into Maidana's fight to the degree Khan did could no way beat Mayweather, I agree 100% mate.

I was genuinely shocked to see it mate. Frochy got decent play too. It's all very heartening.
