World Series of Boxing.

Did anyone else watch this last Friday, Premier Sports.... anyone else completely confused by it? Its Amateur boxing without the headguard correct? Does it go on the fighters Amateur record? What is the scoring system?

And whats this about the winner being allocated a place in the Olympics.... there was some good action, but this didn't seem to be amateur boxing at all. Call me old fashioned but I don't believe a select few who are getting paid to do this event should be guarenteed a place.

Premier sports are not helping themselves by their shocking promotion of it? I spend about 30 mins a night scanning the sports channels for boxing and I nearly missed it. And their website reveals its on live again at the weekend - but no details and who knows if its an old advert.

I thought Premier Sports might showcase some of the fights on this weekend - like Morales vs Barriors but I guess not.

I too am utterly confused by it. It's ostensibly amateur boxing, but without headguards, with a 10-point must system, over five rounds instead of three, and while the boxers don't get paid per bout, they do get a salary.

On top of this, despite claiming to be amateur, they are apparently lobbying BoxRec editors to include the bouts in the database.

Its definitley been received with mixed views in the Amateur Boxing world. I don't beleive the competitors are by any means guaranteed an Olympic spot, although they are all elite level amateurs so are likely to be in the running anyway. Basically they are still eligible to qualify for the major am tournaments even though they have competed in the WSB.

Weird one.
