Anyone got any news of this, read about Reaperman having another whack at winning the Lonsdale in Liverpool at the start of the year, but seen nothing since...

Degale would have far too much for Reid at this stage. Unless he is talking about a vacant title at light heavy but I assume that would be against Bomber if Cleverly vacates?

Reid should probably stay retired. He wasn't ageing well as a fighter and has already achieved more than enough in his career

Reid was shite for the last 5 years of his career and now he wants to comeback after a 3 year lay-off???

Excuse my apathy on the situation

I was only reading about Reid yesterday, in the build-up to his fabulous performance against Henry Wharton.
Mickey Duff, who promoted Wharton, had a huge bet with F rank Warren, who promoted Reid, that his man would win.

Yeah, your apathy is so apparent.

One of my favourite boxers of the time, and i still think he either beat calzaghe by a point or 2 or it was a draw. A shame he never got a rematch and was bereft from 2000 up to 2003 when he had that fight with Ottke. At the end he was a shadow.

But he was a suprising world champ and he defended his title, what 3 times? In a tough era for MW and SM's. The SM division these days is also very tough even at domestic level.

I agree he achieved more than a lot and should stay retired.

Jesus, no, stay retired please Robin. The last I remember of him was Froch taking him to pieces without getting out of 1st gear, that was a bad enough ending.

Agreed, Robin was a talented fighter in his day, I still remember his battle with Magee.
But Mr. Reid needs to stay retired, boxing has moved on since his day.

A match against DeGale would be a nice easy pay-day for Reid. Do five rounds or so then retire on his stool like he did against Froch. Mercenary and not quite as good a way as getting your shmeckle played with by busty babes on a porn shoot but it's money in the bank.

I liked Reid but thought his fight with Magee was awful.

He definitely needs to stay retired.

And in response to one of the posts above, yeah Im convinced he beat Calzaghe, maybe he didnt get the decision, But he was definitely the better man against Calzaghe - no doubt in my mind.

From where I was sitting in the arena, I thought he beat Calzaghe.

Yeah, mine too. I've never seen a boxer warned for punching another in the face before. Ignoring the obvious knockdown was pretty bad too. Good old Roger Tillerman. And people complain about Joe Cortez. Robin was an unlucky guy. Ottke wouldn't give him a rematch and neither would Calzaghe who "doesn't believe in rematches". As noted earlier it's not as an enjoyable way of making a living as his previous job, but he does have a "name" so maybe someone will be interested.

Thats incorrect my friend. As much as I like to point out Calzaghe's short-comings, Reid was actually offered a rematch. In fact Reid turned it down as he thought his 1st performance was deserving of a better payday than was being offered.

Mickey offered a £10,000 bet and Fwank fired back with an offer of £50,000!They settled at £25,000.Going into the fight, the bookies couldnt split them, both 5/6 in places. To be fair to Duff,Reid had never boxed as well as that before.
