A good fight, i see Jnr taking this in a slugfest.

Why is this on a Saturday night? Fox returns to Friday night telecasts again next year, and as Andy Raymond addressed boxing fans as he closed the show, Boxing will not survive next year unless the top guys start fighting the top guys. well how about getting some coverage over there hey Foxtel.

What a fantastic matchup!

Here's my analysis:

Robbie Bryant
Age: 31 (32 by the time of the fight)
Record: 13(7)-1(0)-1
Rounds fought: 57
Rating: #80 at middleweight
Height: Quoted as 5'8", actually nearer 5'10"
Reach: 71"
Weight: 153-160lb

Junior Talipeau
Age: 26
Record: 17(5)-1(0)-1
Rounds fought: 126
Rating: #39 at super middleweight
Height: 5'7
Reach: 70 1/2"
Weight: 155-168lb

Mutual opponents:

Frank LoPorto - lost by UD4 to Talipeau in '06 at middleweight, beat Bryant by SD6 (LoPorto down in round 5) in '09 at light middleweight.

Andreas Seran - lost by MD10 to Talipeau in '07 at middleweight, lost by SD4 to Bryant (Bryant down in round 1) in '07 at middleweight.

William Hadlow - lost by KO3 to Talipeau in '08 at middleweight, lost by TKO5 to Bryant (Hadlow down in round 1) in '10 at middleweight.

Sonni Michael Angelo - lost by UD8 to Talipeau in '10 at super middleweight, lost by UD8 to Bryant in '10 at middleweight.

Talipeau will not have fought at middleweight for 21 months, but at 5'7 he can surely make the weight comfortably without any reduction in performance. The biggest difference between the two is clearly that Talipeau has fought a lot more rounds, is more used to long fights and has fought the higher quality of opposition. I hadn't seen him until I recently watched a few clips on YouTube. He seems to like fighting in close, has good workrate and uses his head a lot, though it seems unintentional. He's taken flush punches from Victor Oganov among others and been in wars with Nader Hamdan, Ben Crampton and Andreas Seran.

From what I've seen I think Talipeau has the edge in toughness, chin (Bryant has a good chin, but Talipeau's looks to be concrete) and experience, while Bryant has the better skill-set, with handspeed and power about even. WA judges are very fair so don't expect a home decision, though I'm going to go out on a limb and pick Bryant to win a close points decision. Given Junior's history, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bryant cut by a head-clash at some point in the fight, but I would be very suprised to see either fighter knocked out.

Interesting fact: This may as well be a fight between two undefeated fighters. Both fighters have one draw as a result of an accidental head-clash and one close and rather unlucky decision loss.

Excellent news. Well done to Ty and all the guys. Hopefully fox will grab one of cards, despite the 3 hours difference. Tough fight for Robbie though.

It looks like Peter Cronje is fighting Evans Quinn in the semi main event. Should be a real test for Peter as Quinn has been active since fighting Meehan and has 8 weeks to prepare.
