Following his 6th round stoppage victory over Michael Lozado, Paulie Malignaggi said he could possibly fight either Matthew Hatton or IBF holder Jan Zaveck in his next fight.

I think we have all established at this stage that Paulie isn't world class but is an excellent gatekeeper to the world title fight. He has started his welterweight campaign in excellent fashion scoring his first stoppage win in over 7 years.

If the fight was made against Matthew Hatton, how do you think it would pan out?

An easy easy win for Malignaggi, no doubt about it!

i would like to see matthew hatton KO'd by paulie, its a shame as i dont even know matthew hatton as a person, but my dislike has grown from team hattons greed (in my opinion) towards the end of rickys career.

At welterweight he's turning into a total banger! Hatton would be lucky to last 5.

Malnaggi isn't turning into a banger. He was good last night but the opponent wasn't that good either. He just gave him a bit of a beating in the Fifth and Sixth rounds.

Not over keen on Magic myself either

matthew hatton has had an admirable career and he continues to improve drastically this last 18 months but i dont see malignaggi being a good choice. i could quite easily see paulie winning a clear points win and bruising hatton along the way even though he is a very modest puncher.

i do think malignaggi has been made to look worse by his losses to the other hatton and khan than he actually is, much like the elder hatton seems to be totally written off due to his two defeats. ricky was a very very high class operator just not as good as two all time greats in mayweather and pacquio who frankly the likes of which come around once or twice every twenty or so years

Is this regarding Billy Graham? Or the fact Hatton didn't fight Witter? If its the latter then I just simply cannot agree with you on it. Hatton got great money yes - but he fought the best two fighters of the generation and gave it his all in both fights..... Yes, something clearly wasn't right with Hatton in the Pacquiao fight - he didn't look well coming into the ring, but he certainly fought with attitude and balls and thats why he ended up as he did.

Or are you suggesting that "team Hatton" made Ricky a sacrificial lamb for the Pacquiao fight - the team knew he was out of his depth but took the fight for the cash. Again, I will politely disagree with you. Pacquiao at that time was not proven at 140 lbs. All he had done was beat a shell of Oscar. At 135 he struggled (albeit in a masterful display) to get that absolutely rock chinned David Diaz out of there. Ricky had just come off argueably his performance of his career. He might not have excelled at 147 - but his previous fight at 140 possibly his best displays at the weight, and he looked good against Castillo. Okay, he wasn't outstanding against Lazcano but that could be attributed to alot of things. Your only as good as your last fight, and Ricky was outstanding. I think team Hatton rightfully believed they stood a fighting chance. I don't think anyone in their right mind at the time, who saw Pacquiao pound Diaz for 9 rounds before finally making him take a backward step - thought he would turn out to be a puncher at 147 and possibly (actually probably) at 154.

D'you know, watching the Diaz fight as part of my build-up ceremonies the night of Pac-Hatton, my old man turns to me about round six of Pac-Diaz & goes "Well, at least this little fella ain't much of a puncher".

Two hours later, Ricky was staring unconscious up at the ring lights.

S'weird, but I don't know whether or not the welters are just throwing themselves onto his shots or not (or are too slow to get out the fricking way). Either that or Diaz is made of bloody granite because he walked through Hell that night.

it says so much for Diaz, the amount he took, cos its not like he's got any speed or skill or replexes to offset the power in his opponents' punches

the welters may be a *little* bit slower and more available to hit than Diaz, but slow as he is, it can't be by much.

Yeah, if Diaz had looked to avoid any of Pacquaio's shots then you could think that but he just walked into everything that was thrown at him.

I think it's down to Manny's extra strength in his legs as he has moved up the weights and maybe he is planting his feet a little more against larger opponents and the fact Diaz is made of stone. Manny has gained weight perfectly as he has moved up and seems to be stronger and only slightly slower. Hatton is probably lucky that Pacquaio did him so early, given the way he marks up and the way Manny has left the likes of Diaz and Margarito looking, he would not have been pretty.

Onto Matthew Hatton, whilst I appreciate the improvements he has made in his career, it is frustrating that for whatever reason he isn't being matched with his domestic rivals. Ii'm sure a lot of the dislike for him stems from the fact that his career has moved on so far compared to Watson who gave him a boxing lesson is purely down to family ties.

im not claiming hatton was a sacrificial lamb, nor am i bitter about him not fighting witter (ok...im a little bit bitter)

i was led to believe that team hatton, admirably led by ray, allegedly exploited fans relating to the distribution of tickets for more than one vegas fight !!....

basically, if you own all of the tickets, you can charge fans any price you want, the same fans that made hatton rich in the first place.

all allegedly of course.
