Bute is out of his league and will hand him a fairly severe beat down.

well..... i would tip froch to beat bute, and magee was beating froch for about 11 rounds until that uppercut, it was a few years ago before anyone tries to educate me!!
if magee fights bute, and loses, then i would like to see magee in with degale or groves !!

Magee Vs Froch was a close fight, but Froch was winning on all 3 cards at the time of the stoppage- 95-94,96-95 and 97-92.

I went with Carl to the hospital on the saturday morning after Magee - and they operated and pinned his thumb back together after he snapped it clean in the 3rd.
That said, Magee was very game and has improved since then.

I'm assuming he will get a much bigger payday against Bute.

Stupid because?
Being WBA No 1 makes him mandatory to fight Sartison (rather than the genuine champ Ward), so he sacrifices that to fight for the IBF crown. How is it stupid to sacrifice a potential title shot for a guaranteed one?
Unless you think it's too risky and he should hold out for an easier fight, in which case he'd doubtless be criticised for taking an easy route. It's critics like this that encourage the credibility of the ludicrous decisions made by the alphabet organisations.

The advantage of a mandatory challenge is usually that you don't have to sign your life away in options as many do with voluntaries. Plus, if you're not offered money that you're happy with then it will go to purse bids with your team winning a set percentage of the overall purse - although that would probably not be a massive amount against Sartison. Perhaps better to get a smaller percentage of a bigger pot.
