Here's a feel good story for Christmas, tough ex pro Iran Barkley seems to be making good at last.

Its amazing a man in that predicament hasn't cashed in his belt.

I've heard mixed reports about his mental health in recent years. There have been postings about him suffering from pugilstic dimentia, but I remember him on ESPN it must be around 3 years ago and he seemed to be on excellent form and I was quite surprised no more TV work came from it.

I think you're misunderstanding mate. First time round he never sold his belt - it was stolen and the guy who stole it must have sold it to the collector mentioned in the article.

Not even Leonard could twice get the better of Tommy Hearns as Barkley did. Iran was a cute, dangerous fighter.

Hope he stays on the up. What a tough fighter he was.

Never thought I'd hear Iran Barkley described as 'cute!' he was an unbelievable warrior though, some of the shots he took from the likes of Toney, Duran, Nunnery etc. A tougher man you'd struggle to find! I wish him well

The one word I thought I'd never hear Iran Barkley called was 'cute' Bennie!!!

Hard man, thought he was jobbed a bit against Duran too.

One of my favourite quotes is from Barkley (prior to his shock win over the much-touted Michael Olajide): "I'd like to thank Madison Square Garden for giving me the opportunity to break Michael Olajide's bones!"

I met Barkley in NYC. He looked a little overweight and didn't seem very content. I hear he has no money left. He was personable but tried to charge me $30 for a picture. We settled on $20!

he didn't seem too punchy, but looked worn by too many hard fights.

Yeah the poor guy's another one who lost it all. Has had a tough tough life and has nothing to show for it. Was living off handouts and being put up in a hotel by a friend. So sad.
