One of the great Philly tough guys of all time. Gave Carlos Monzon one of his toughest title defenses, it could be argued that he deserved the decision. Played spoiler to some other Middleweights of the era, and was a hell of a puncher.
R.I.P. Bennie one of the great brawlers in boxing history, and a legendary figure in Philly.

Definite bad ass, came around at the wrong time to get a belt. He would have steamrolled Pavlik or Taylor.

R.I.P. Bennie. One of my favorite fighters growing up. IMO clearly lost to Monzon but Monzon always respected Bennie and Bennie gave Monzon one of his toughest title fights. Fought anywhere, any time. In this era of four or five middleweight titles, Bennie would have been called "champ."

Boxing could never give to Bennie what he gave to the sport.
RIP Champ.

I trained for time in the late 70's at Fraziers gym where Bennie trained. He was a character. I later got to know his manager Pat Duffy real well. He said Bennie only asked two questions, "how much and when?". He never cared who he was fighting.

He was clearly one of the most ducked fighters of his era or any other era. Not too many fighters, especially middleweights, want it to fight him in his prime. His record shows that he was a hard-hitting middleweight contender. Gave the great Carlos Monzon 2 tough fights... and in Argentina of all places. Today fighters won't even go to fight you in your own backyard. Bad Bennie used to go to your own backyard and if you were not at your best, it would be all over for you and a long night with him.
RIP, Bennie.

Gave both Monzon and Hagler a decent fight. How many middleweights can say that?
RIP Bennie Briscoe
