shame he's not having a rematch with smith, last time was close and it would be good for smith to shut people up who had simpson winning their 1st fight

John Simpson is a real handful for anyone in Europe at his weight. If he boxed any of the top men he'd give them a proper night; win or lose. To be honest I thought he'd won by a couple of rounds v Swift. A rematch would be good as the 1st bout was very entertaining.

id like to see the Simpson v Smith re-match.
Could top a bill on its own that one if you ask me.

He should be going straight for the EBU i think? He deserves it. He's fought absolutley everyone at domestic level and should push for a shot instead of the Lindsay rematch. I also had him beating Smith but it ws close.

Does he have to fight Lindsay again? Fantastic fight, but not sure I see that much of the point. Simpson deservedly beat him in Ireland - I cannot see how Lindsay can beat him, not so soon after fight 1 anyway.

Someone told me yesterday that Simpson has agreed a rematch in Ireland once again, I'd imagine he was offered good money as I don't think there's any other reason for him to do this. In this case He must obviously be confident of beating him again and rightfully so.

I've been to a lot of tournaments with Sofiane in the amateurs and sparred with him. He is a good technical southpaw, very beatable though :bag:

I think Simpson is crazy to take this fight unless hes being paid well over the odds. Clearly he'll be confident at winning but you'd imagine Lindsay will be making adjustments and will improve in the rematch. If Lindsay loses again its game over in terms of moving up from domestic level. Hes in the same desperate situation Simpson was, which makes him dangerous. Every time Simpson beats someone notable (Morris, Truscott, Lindsay) he has to fight them again as though the first fight was some sort of aberration. One thing you can be absolutely certain of- if Simpson loses a razor-thin decision the same courtesy will not be extended to him

If I was in Simpsons shoes I'd probably avoid this fight and try to raise to another level. He has nothing left to prove domestically and it's not as if he "stole" the last fight. He won deservedly and convincingly.

Anyhow, the last fight was a cracker so at least we get yo see something similar again!

Good luck 2 Simpson.

Lindsey has no chance vs Simpson- its plain as day that he has neither the solidness to match him or the technical skills to outbox him. No wonder simpsons took it he'll win easier then last time- we've all seen how effective Simpson is in rematches. I'd like him to fight Smith again, I thought he was very unfortunate first time round and performed nowhere near his optimimum though that obviously had a lot to do with Stephens own performance.

I agree with your thoughts there mate, the thing is, that was john's 1st fight for me and HE will improve bundles before the next fight imo and that wont help martins chances one little bit.909 punches in 12 rounds is a bit special

That many? It was obvious Lindsay was being outworked throughout. When he did throw he connected with some good shots but he wasn't active enough. Was a fairly passive performance by Martin I felt.

John Simpson is a very capable and determined man. He is a top competitor; both Smith and Lindsay are excellent boxers in their own right. It shows how lucky we are to have a division packed with such battlers. Though I admire the boxing skills of both Lindsay and Smith I love Simpsons' approach to a bout. He really is a prizefighter - he goes where the money is and turns up in shape and with a plan. A very good professional. A bout between Smith and Lindsay would be a purists delight.

I'd hate tae see Simpson take this rematch and get robbed again i can only assume the money's too good not to. He'll have tae push for the stoppage this time around just to make sure. The man deserves success. He's a warrior and there's not many fighters in Britain worked as hard as he has. :TU: All the best to him.

John will box every bit as good as the last time but better and if he does no featherweight in europe will stick with him imo, john is a work in progress now

simpson is a top professional, he will travel an fight in opponents back yards with no questions asked. but people have to remember, stephen beat simpson in his 1st 12 rounder, having broke his hand in round 3. he could have picked an easier opponent for his 1st 12 rounder. he will be alot better on his return just wait an see ;;-)

Yes i agree with you liam, the thing is john simpson simply didnt turn up that night against stephen and it was still very close many thought john won but the judges never thats what matters :TU:

It was a very close fight against smith i was there i thought he nicked it but once again the judges didn't do john any favours. But he bounced back and proved what he's more than capable of doing against lindsay. A fight between any the 3 of these boys would be more than welcome but i'd like tae see simpson competing at the next level.

Simpson took his chance and won well. He deserves his break and a shot at the european title would be justified. As for the rematch in Ireland I hope he is being well paid and I don't believe the Belfast crowd would be at all happy if Lindsay was awarded a crooked decision but a rematch doesn't hold any advantage for Simpson.

Martin was good enough to give john a shot and it was a good fight so they fight again,i agree john should be rewarded with a fight for the eurpoean title easier said than done even though hes Mandatory. With regards to the Belfast crowd they are very knowledgable and to be honest the vast majority knew john had won, you'll always get a fair decision there imo.

It shows how mentally strong Simpson is though. The judges may be fair enough but the crowd is heaving and partisan and very close to the ring. Respect due to both; very good boxers the pair of them.

I agree Billy i think on the night even the crowd knew John had done enough but i remember when paul Appleby fought Lindsay in Belfast and in my opinion the ref stopped it too early not a good decision. I actually spoke to paul at the Kelvin hall the night Burns beat Martinez and he said the atmosphere at the Ulster Hall that night was really poisonous.

A pal boxed at Ulster Hall and he said it weren't very nice at all; he felt that the crowd could get at him easy. A couple of mates boxed at York Hall and though the balconies are steep and the ring side seats close it is more comfortable to box there (apparently!)

He didnt turn up? :witzend: He had every advantage in his favour! In my first 12 rounder, first live fight, I was cut by a clash of heads, snapped my left hand in the 4th, boxed in Glasgow in front of a very vocal hostile crowd, fought John when he was in the form of his life, going in on the back of 3 stoppage wins! All this in my 11th fight! Yet he didnt turn up? I won the fight and will be 100% better again next time round too believe me. Ive never bad mouthed John, he had a great night in Belfast, I was first to congratulate him and he deserved everything he got, he has never dodged anyone. Since then, ive sat back and said nothing, now my hands better and im back, if John moves on to European then good luck to him, he deserves it, if he doesnt then the rematch with me is one a lot will want to see im sure! If he is the best in Europe then he will have no quarms in proving it and winning a Commonwealth Title back along the way! From my point of view, its a chance for me to prove im the best in Britain and beating John again will certainly stake my claim :TU:
