Just watched his dvd..to be honest id forgot how good he was,what a fighter i dont think we will ever see the same again.....

A shame he was destroyed by his own ego. I'm not sure he ever had the beating of Barrera, but he would surely have made a better job of it under Ingle.

Unfortunately Naz bought into his own hype, and believed he could just smash anyone put in front of him.

good boxer but an arrogant tw*t. Summat about leopards and spots. I'm after all sorts of fights on DVD at the moment I'm trying one of these ad's in the back of magazines who sell you old fights. Hamed's fights with his big dumb grin do not interest me at all.
I think it was in Calzaghe's book that Calzaghe said Carl Thompson threatened to batter him if he took the piss out of him one more time for not having money or expensive clothes. Nob.

no, Eubank threatened to slap him at an airport probably for Naz being cocky. Someone else probably knows the whole sorry story. Thompson was going to get stuck into him as well cos Naz was the only millionaire out of the 4 fighters that went to America together (Rhodes, Thompson, Calzaghe and Naseem) and he particularly took the piss out of Thompson for having no money and wearing normal clothes and bragging about being rich etc......sounds like a fcking w*nker to me. Didn't he initially run away when he crashed his car into that bloke and then go back to the scene or am I thinking of somebody else?

In calzaghes book he does mention that naz was being a cockend in the back of a limo whilst promoting a fight. Being a flashy geezer about how rich he was etc etc.
Naz's full ego thing is what made him. Some people watched him because they loved to watch his style and ability and others watched cos they were praying for him to get smashed. Either way people were watching him!

There's no doubt he was immense and if he continued to fight beyond his loss to barrera (beyond the one fight he had after it) then I'm sure he wouldv secured a greater lasting legacy.

I met him briefly recently and he couldn't have been any nicer. He still had a smile on hid face talking about his career and looked chuffed to have someone tell him how much they admired his ability in the ring.

I reckon naz couldv took Barrera if they fought again! ;)

Didn't Eubank put Naz in his place though?

They had some sort of argument aswell in an airport or something I believe. Think it all happened infront of the cameras etc and got blown out of proportion but whatever happened they must have sorted it out because on the programme building up to the Barrera fight Eubank visited naz during the training camp.

Naz had allsorts of arguments, him and Barry mcguigan were always at it aswell. Especially after naz said if they were of the same era naz "would've knocked him spark out" lolol.

hamed should still be in jail for the injuries he caused in that car crash

liked him at the start but he became a bully and like all bullies he went awol when barrera smashed him

His personal life etc defo isn't squeaky clean but judging him purely as a fighter/entertainer I can confidently say there won't be anyone in the same league!
Not a British fighter anyway!

Naz was a special talent, but like plenty have said he began to believe his own sh!t didn't stink. I remember that nonsense where Oscar Suarez would advise 1 round then Manny steward would do the next round. What was that all about?! By the time he fought Barrera he was more worried about his haircut and ring entrance than the actual fight itself. He could have been so much better than he was. He'll probably get in the HOF evetually, but with the gifts he had he should have been a first ballot. I suppose it goes to show talent alone only takes you so far.

Achievements etc then yes Lewis but Naz was a different character.
I could confidently say that there will be people on this site who might not have been boxing fans if there had been no naz? Don't think Lewis had that effect on the public although he was obviously a special talent. I maybe chose the wrong words by saying "in the same league" but naz was special.

You won't find many people who would defend naz as much as I would cos he's defo my favourite boxer but he started losing me also with all his religious pish aswell.
That kind of thing should be done in the changing room if it means so much and not spat in2 a microphone.

I read about the lad in the Doncaster Star and in Boxing News before he turned professional. He was for sure a brilliant talent and all the celebrity stuff and money and adulation did what it does to most who get it - it wrecked his head.

No matter how much of a dick he came across as; he could box and punch and had a real fighting spirit. He deserved a hiding for being a nob and got it. How many years did he hide away for? 8 or 9? Is that enough? It is for me.

Since he ventured out, in interviews he seems to be at ease with himself and has his tongue firmly in his cheek. Fair play to him; he made some silly mistakes and some really big ones but has come out of it; seemingly better (and wealthier).

I was unfortunate enough to be sat next to him when he came to watch Steve Robinson fight in Cardiff before they fought. He was arrogant as feck and ended up spitting at the audience

I have met him a couple of times recently and he has mellowed a lot but all I still see is the arrogant person I first met...

It may be me with my wires crossed; I thought that you'd worked with the Hamed family in some kind of promotional activity along with Tariq from Wheatley, Doncaster. Thought that you'd gained some experience there. I know Tariq enjoyed his time with the Hameds and travelled pretty widely with them.

no mate not me...did a bit of writing for the BBN met a few fighters that way but thats about my claim to fame.

Though I am off to Panama on business soon and one of my contacts is arranging dinner with the great Manos De Piedra in April...that should be fooking ace!

If it all comes of perhaps ill do a piece for Ian and the gang.
