Why dont more Australians get a shot at a Commonwealth Title is it because they dont care about it any more, or has the value of the belt declined. I might be wrong but I'd rather win a Commonwealth over a Regional title any day..

It's because Commonwealth titles don't carry the weight they once did. Plus they're a long-cut to a BS 'world' title

I only worked on the same site as him but I admit I tried to have a chat with him as much as I could, very humble seemed more into the fact that he was N.Z l.heavy champ than fighting Tony Mundine. He says that he won alot more fights than boxrec giv him credit for, but I guess thats just the era, I've got a south african mate Dean Evans (super middleweight) who says the same (although he reckons he lost a few) - Anyone on the aussie board who knows deans number, last time I spoke to him he reckons Soul Pouwnsby was training at his gym, Mount Eden area????

It was good that the commentators on Vea-Siale were enthusiastic about it being for the Commonwealth belt. True to say it's not what it once was, but it's still a whole lot better than the WBF and the various lesser Asia-Pacific belts, not to mention having Oceanic boxers competing for Latin and African belts, FFS. Anything that encourages the Commonwealth belt to get a greater hold Down Under is a welcome move. Same could be said for Canada, for that matter. It's virtually a British monopoly as it is, and even speaking as a Brit, that's not a good thing. There's some tasty matches to be made if Aus and Canada got more involved with the Comm belt.

I agree 100% Oliver, I would love to see the Commenwealth Title be contested between British Aussie and Canadian fighters. There are so many great fights to be made.

It really is a shame that it isnt held in high regard here any more, Id love to see more Aussie guys fight for Aus Title, then go for Commenwealth Title,Then major regional, followed by World Title.

Maybe you could put Aus Title, then major Regional, then Commenwealth. As id say its harder to get a Commenwealth Belt than 95% of regionals.

It's harder to get a Commonwealth belt ,because who wants to travel that far for it.
You could get a legitimate World title in our own backyard look at Manny Pacman got the title in Thailand , Fenech and a few others as well got titles in our own region .
It would be the same airfare to fight for a legitimate World title as it would be to fight for the Commonwealth belt.

C'wealth title is by far more prestigious & better earner than any Regional title.
The fact that most champs are UK based is the problem for Aussies 'cos Oz is @ the arse end of planet earth (so to speak).
So they look at listed contenders in their backyard or close enough......such as Africa.
I would be different if CBC rated contenders, but it doesn't...It lists them in alphabetical order.

Regional title such as OPBF, PABA IBF Pan Pac & WBO Asia Pacific can get guys 'world ' rating within their respective peak body, but in most cases it means SFA, unless spotted by one of world's major promoters.......or have an Oz promoter prepared to stage 'world' title challenge, which Oz just doesn't have ATM.

Over the last 15+ years, most Oz guys that eventually got a shot @ 'world' title via above mentioned Regionals, didn't get a great deal more $$$$$$ than to cover sanction fees they paid to above mentioned Regional organizations to get the opportunity.

BTW, CBC doesn't require business class jet setting & 5 star hotel staying junket boys. The title is contested according to rules & regs where it's contested and officiated by locals

I believe that if the Commonwealth title can't get you any higher ranked in the World than our regional titles how is it better .
Don't forget fighters want to tell their grandkids they where WORLD champs not Commonwealth champs . You fight for a World title to win it ,then the money will come in.

Commonwealth title will get one a rating in WBC, but not if one continually defends the title against duds, which is the case with WBA, IBF & WBO regionals

CBC is one of 3 WBC mothers, albeit these days, WBC is more of private (family) enterprise as is WBA.

You can fight good fighters in our region too, Shane Cameron fought David Tua .Now if he would have won ,he could have got a shot at a World title.
Commonwealth title has got nothing to do with anything here any more now I'm sorry but it's a fact.
People can fight stiffs whether it's Commonwealth title or our Regional titles.

Both Tua & Cameron have use by date clearly stamped on their forehead. Who the fark would wanna see either of them in 'world' title fight??

I'm not saying that they are not past their use by date but they generated a lot of money for a regional title over here so would it have made any difference if it was for a Commonwealth title .
David Tua would have easily beaten Martin Rogan would it have made any difference to his ranking for doing so.

Tua is a "has been" & no value to any promoter outside New Zealand :P

I don't agree with that,because in the Heavyweight division the last thing a fighter looses is his punch .David Tua hasn't been in form I'll admit but if one of the champs underestimate him and use him as an opponent they could be in for a bit of a shock.
