Haye's doomsday scenario

What if an ageing Vitali succumbs to Solis (who's creating something of a buzz right now) in his mandatory and Wladimir gets chinned by Chisora in his keep busy in April? What does Haye do then?
Solis might well be a good opponent but does Haye want to stick around long enough to build up a fight with an opponent who's unknown in the UK? Does he really want to get dragged into another interminable round of negotiations with another group of promoters/tv execs?
I actually think there's a big risk of this transpiring (let's face it, little bro always appears to be there for the taking and big bro ain't getting any younger), leaving Haye without his long awaited paydays and the chance to secure any sort of lasting legacy.

can't see it myself...but if it happens, the heavyweight division might just become a little bit interesting again

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see Solis pull off an upset against Vitali, he is the most naturally gifted Heavyweight out there it's just if he trains hard and gets the tactics right then i wouldn't put the upset last him. Solis-Haye would be a good fight and a really tough one to call but I think Solis could pull it off there as well

I think the doomsday scenario is Haye not getting a fight with either Klitschko, because they can't come to a deal. Forget about them losing. If Haye is retiring in October there isn't much of a window left. He certainly won't get a fight with both brothers in that timeframe. It's a bit annoying that he's put a date on retirement, because he will undoubtedly have unfinished business if he sticks to it.

I would laugh for days on end if Chisora KO's Wladamir. It would prove that Wlad is a bum!

Yes, and his near-60 victims and 10-plus title challengers will agree with this learned assessment.

Why is David Haye so keen to retire by 31?
I applaud the man for not wanting to fight on too long & tarnish his name & put his health at risk, but when you're still a new champion in your prime; not showing any signs of deterioration; still relatively young & have not had the defining fights of your career that are seemingly on offer, it begs the question as to why he'd want to quit so soon.

He had a buzz early on but has been doing his damndest to quash it. There can't be much of it left after he trudged after Austin in straight lines on the end of of Austin's pawing jab.

maybe he doesn't love boxing enough to want to carry on any longer, and he's made enough money to retire on. I have no problem with that - it's his head getting punched in, after all - I just hope he doesn't expect anyone to consider him a "great".
I don't even consider him a great cruiserweight, he didn't defend his title enough times.
If it were me, the prospect of getting a chance to become the undisputed HW champ for the sake of waiting another year would be too much to resist. But that's just me.

If these scenarios play out Haye would likely become the #1 HW and he would have an easier path to unification. Even if they beat both Ks, I still see Chisora and Solis as more beatable opponents than the brothers. Obviously Haye would not be able to fight a Klitschko, but by them losing a lot of people would probably start claiming in hindsight that he would have defeated them anyways and that many of his claims were validated. Also, it's not like he can't make millions fighting other guys.
I don't think Haye will retire at 31 either. It can be very difficult to call it a day when you are getting all that attention and making tons of money for taking extremely winnable fights.

I don't understand why he wants to retire at 31. His heavyweight exploits have been a cake-walk. He's hardly taken a meaningful shot. Not to mention that he legacy isn't secured yet. And I know he gets a lot of Klit, relatively speaking, but by gosh, he needs one of the big 'uns badly.

If Chisora beats Haye, then Chisora vs Haye will become another British Mega Fight.... okay, it won't match Williams' publicity for beating Tyson, but it will make the regular news and Chisora will become known.
Whilst I cannot see Haye and Chisora being that easy a fight to make.... 1) Chisora is likely to be fighting another European due to the options and 2) Haye and Chisora's British promoter do not exactly see eye to eye.... it will still mean big money.
If Solis beats Vitali - then it will still be a big fight with Haye (Solis vs Haye)..... there is a history there and its not like Solis will not get any press for what would be a pretty big upset.

I'm not now expecting Haye to retire in October. I'm expecting 'the Klitchkos are ducking me, so I've got to fight longer to meet them' line to come out soon. Would he really retire if in a few further months he can earn silly money.

I keep on hearing Solis being derided because he's packed on the pounds, have people been watching him? He's an absolute animal!
Naturally, if he was a little trimmer, he'd be better off, but even in his current state, he's a terror. He goes about his business in the ring with a fearless confidence, weight issues aside, he's the best uncrowned heavyweight out there imo.
I'm still a little gunshy about getting behind someone who looks to have a real arsenal after Kevin Johnson's shot at Vitali, but then Johnson didn't show up. I think Solis gives Vitali real fits if that fight comes off. I'm hoping the odds are good for that one because I think that's going to be Vitali's career capped.
Chisora's a longshot, but who knows. All it takes is one thumping shot on target and he could hit the jackpot. I don't see it ever going down in the one-sided manner that Sanders did him, so that situation would likely result in an immediate rematch.
Realistically though, Wlad beats Chisora, Haye should beat Chagaev (although a faded Chagaev still has a terrible style for Haye!) and the two should meet just before Haye retires. I'm pretty sure there's absolutely no chance of a Haye/Solis match-up down the line as Solis would likely muller him and I'm sure Booth knows that.

If it means he gets his pay day(s), Haye will definitely hang around for another year or two.

As Solis is the mandatory, if he beats Vitali does he have to re-match him? I know the Klits won't be allowed to do their 3 match contracts they like, but if Solis does beat Vitali, I reckon Haye will try and make the match in an instant

His doomsday scenario is neither Klitschko agrees to face him, then Chagaev gets refused a licence to fight in the UK, so he will have to go to Germany or US to fight him and he ends up somewhere like Foxwoods and then the best available is Povetkin

I think Haye is a man of his word.Nothing in his career suggests that he is not. I believe that he will retire in October, and that Wlad or his trainer didn't really fancy it, and probably think it be like corrie saunders all over again.I am struggling to think of a time when a world heavyweight champion chose to box a british level fighter with only 14 fights, and no one outside the uk has heard off instead of a rival champion that is a marquee name. Incredible stuff. That's the actions of a man who doubts himself in my book.

It looks like there is a very good chance Chagaev will be denied a license.

Apart from his entire HW career.
I can't wait until he retires and we can just forget him, and concentrate on proper fighters like Froch.

It's not as simple as that. Solis would have had to sign a contract where he has to give Vitali an immediate rematch and if he wins that rematch he'll have to take on Wlad. For Solis or Chisora to be able to fight David Haye. They would have to fight a Klitschko 3 times in a row first.
