Unbeaten and former European champion 'Dazzling' Darren Barker was commended by a judge for his bravery after intervening in the violent assault of a man, by two others during the summer.

The events unfolded during the world cup games on Watford Street, where Barker intercepted the attack to calm the situation. He was then set about by around TEN other men with the group and kicked repeatedly in the face until he was unconcious.

The resulting damage included over a thousand pounds worth of dental work to the brave boxer.

The three men of the gang who the courts managed to find guilty were lucky to avoid custody and have all been issued with curfews and ordered to pay Barker £500 compensation and the judge, after commending Barker's bravery awarded a further £250.

Iain Hughes (aged 22), Jake Simmons (20) and Lloyd Osborne(25) all from Watford, admitted being guilty of affray.

Barker, who withdrew from the Matthew Macklin defence of his European title, later relinquished the belt to the challenger.

A purse bid between the two fighters has now been called and is hopefully set to take place shortly.

Ive done jury service and can see how they just got slapped wrist, ankle tags and a fine.

With so many swarming and it happening so fast it's difficult to nail the main culprits. Hopefully they had CCTV of it all which enabled at least some of them to get done.

If you kick someone in the head whilst he's unconcious you're trying to kill him. This is gbh and the fact that there's no custodial sentence is shocking. They're probably boasting to their mates "We beat the crap out of a top class boxer an got away with it!" Wankers.

It's the country's favourite past time it would seem. Forget the wife and kids, lets just get drunk with a load of other yobs and then go attacking people and acting big.

Or should I say, forget the 3 girlfriends and 5 kids by 4 different women.

Fair play to Darren for doing the right thing but the sad fact is he's lucky to have only got a kicking these days, so many of these scumbags are carrying knives.

Absolute w*nkers. Good on Darren for helping a guy in distress. I get the impression Darren didn't let his fists fly and just tried to calm things down. Annoying thing is if he had chinned a couple of them he would be doing time right now because he is a trained professional. Great composure from Darren not do so, knowing the risk it poses to his career.

Most people would have done nothing in that situation. However, Darren showed true bravery by risking his own safety in order to help another. Mucho respect to Darren.

It's good to hear the judge praise Darren, but those scumbags should be doing hard time for this.

I hope the boxing commumity gives Darren all the support he needs. He's the sort of guy who gives boxing a good name and maybe it's his turn to get something back.

I didn't know about this. A really disgusting act. Darren actually might not ever be the same fighter because of it.

They would have found a place in a cell for Darren Barker if he'd had hit them back. Justice? No justice in this country whatsoever! All the shite are running rampant everywhere.

It would have been utterly scandalous had the Dazzler let rip with a few punches some of them out and ended up in prison for it and I would have joined the campaign to have him released but kudos for him to try and sort it out shame he got a bit of a shallacking for it and to a man on here I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing him back in the ring soon.

Oh for a bit of creativity in the judicial system! They should all have had to lace them up and go three rounds with Darren.

That's actually a good idea, I see a PPV event that could be made out of that.

I like the idea as well mate it is just a shame we have not got the judges to do that and he would make a right mess of them.

The justice system is a joke- its like the people who run it have no idea what planet their on. Well done to Darren hopefully now one of his mates can give them all a good hiding ...one by one.
