allegedly wants Wayne McCullough to quit

PROMOTER allegedly today said that he believes Wayne McCullough should retire.
McCullough and Warren have amicably parted company, which means that the Pocket Rocket is postponing his return to Britain, having considered a switch from Las Vegas to London.
The 33-year-old still believes that he can get back into world title contention and is targeting a clash with Manny Pacquaio, the man who recently stopped Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera or exciting Paulie Ayala.
Warren said: "It was good to work with Wayne, he's a nice guy and I wish him well in the future.
"I would have preferred for him to retire but I respect his decision to carry on.
"He's in a tough division (featherweight) and it's going to be hard for him because there are a lot of young fighters coming through."
McCullough has not fought since that terrible beating at the hands of WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison in March though he has been in constant training.
Having split from Kenny Croom he needs a new coach and promoter.
McCullough said: "I am always open to offers and have been in contact with Top Rank about a fight with Paulie Ayala. I would also love a fight with Manny Pacquaio, so if he is interested his team can contact my manager.
"Even though I lost my last fight, I still have the hunger and know I can become a World champion again."
Meanwhile, Eamonn Magee is hoping that Warren can deliver a showdown with WBU light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton in 2004, following on from the Belfast man's WBU welterweight title success on Saturday night.

I wouldnt like to see him against Manny to me that would be a one sided 12 round beating he could do without...

Ayala could be an intriguing fight but Paulie would win a wide points decision in my book.

I'm afraid so - Wayne needs to move back down, the IBF title should be vacant soon, although McCullough is not in the top ten in any major oganisation rankings (at either weight). There's one or two inexperienced/untested champions at Super Bantam. Scott Harrison may be the worse geniune belt holder at the heigher weight, put simply the only chance he's going to have is at Super Bantam.

Ayalia vs McCullough would be interesting, got to fancy Ayalia - but he won't hurt Wayne.

I am with FW on this one - I would love to see Wayne hang em up and go into TV/training after a sterling career.

Olympic Silver medal, combined with a WBC title, won in Japan and some fantastic scraps with the best fighters of his day.

He certainly has great memories and I for one would like to see him enjoy them, unlike some less fortunate souls such as Jerry Quarry and Bradley Stone.
Only a fighter can say when its time to hang em up, but due to Wayne's style I hope its sooner rather then later.

There has been talk of McCullough - Ayala happening, but other than that, what is out there for Wayne? He's in no position to earn a title shot, is too small for featherweight, and is rebounding from a savage beating. It's an uphill struggle for McCullough to be honest.

If he is to continue, a 10 round non title fight with Ayala or even Bones Adams wouldn't be a bad move. An even better one, would to retire as the proud champion he is.

He is in danger of becoming known in the game as an opponent rather than someone with a genuine chance at world level.

I agree with GITR i would rather see him retire.

Totally agree, time to quit, Pacquaio would absolutely murder Wayne, it wouldn't go the distance either, he would get brutally stopped inside of 8 rounds, no ref would stand for that carnage for long.

Just like the public wont stand for the turgid shit you pass off as writing Mcdonell.
I think Wayne should retire but for the love of god, you are one up yourself bastard, every post you make yourself out to be the man whos opinion matters. Actually nobody cares. I bet youve never fought, so who are you to pass judgement in such a manner on a fighter, no wonder ESB thought you were a pudendum and binned your ass.

you are a wanker

Whatever tit-face, and for your information I quit Eastside to write for maxboxing.

No I never fought, but then you never wrote, so by that token, who are you to judge my writing ergo. go fornicate yourself lamebrain.

People like you make me laugh, anyone who expresses and opinion you don't like the old 'you never fought' argument comes out, the lamest argument in the world. I never lead the country either, but I still got the right to criticise the government.

Sure, let's see McCulloch carry on until he starts seeing double and having trouble walking and talking, that would be a nice end to his career wouldn't it?

I wonder if that's spud? Funny how there was a reference made

It's strange also that all I did was agree with what someone else had said, and yet I'm subjected to that tirade of abuse. Anyone know who this sweetpea character is? Perhaps it's Wayne McCulloch....if so I won't be visiting belfast with me folks this year, just in case I bump into him.

Just what was so offensive in the piece?

You said you agree that McCullogh should retire so what's your point?

"Your lot just write stuff to get a big name" - erm.... That is not a terribly offensive accusation to level at a Journalist!!

What about "you lot just write stuff, present it to editors, get it published, get paid, get ................................................".

Warriors with pencils need to get down the gym and learn the fight game. Instead at every oppurtunity this idiot tell us he is a journalist and gives us high and mighty posts.
Its all bollocks

Well, Kevin Mitchell, like yourself is full of shit. You won't find anyone with more respect for boxers than myself, especially a brave warrior like Wayne McCulloch, but history has shown us that fighters are ususally the worst judges of when to call it quits, and that is why most writers feel a pressure to make a stand and make a case for that fighter quitting.

Admittedly Wayne hasn't reached the stage of Evander Holyfield yet, but that's not a stage I want to see him reach.

You would do well to remember that these guys are idols of mine. I grew up in a household which revered Muhammad Ali, and the first fight i remember watching was seeing Ali get beat by Leon Spinks, and my mum and my Aunt crying when the result was called. Watching a fighter you've admired declining is a sad sight, especially when they are getting hammered in the ring, like Ali agaisnt Holmes and Berbick.

Wayne has taken a huge amount of punishment in his career, and the pounding

Boxing is a dangerous business

It would be different if Wayne was after engaging in a few domestic level bouts, but he wants to get in there with Ayala and even worse Pacquaio. Do you really want to see Wayne get in the ring with a guy who just handed Barrera a severe beating? Wayne would take far too many shots, and with his ability to stay on his feet could get badly hurt in there.

If only people who had fought were allowed to write, there wouldn't be very many sports journalists, is that what you want, nobody writing about boxing, then the sport would have an even lower profile than it does, if you've got an axe to grind with boxing writers, or me in particular, don't read what they or I write, I don't watch fighters I don't like unless I have to.

It's very arrogant of you to dismiss journalists as nothing more than 'wannabes' I've put in hundreds probably thousands of hours of unpaid work, and if I'm trying to make a name for myself, what the fornicate is wrong with that, what am I supposed to do, try and not make a name for myself?

You need to chill the fornicate out, you've obviously got an axe to grind with me, but frankly that's your problem.

Ah, there we are then!

"Its all b0ll0cks" - You do present a strong and persuasive case, i'll grant you!

I agree, the best place to learn how to write well is definitely a Gym!?

I was thinking of learning how to better use a computer - can you recommend a good swimming pool?

Chuckle....

That's right, being able to fight is a pre-requisite for knowing how to right, that's why when people threaten to kick my head in, I generally look around to see if I can find a dictionary.

It's funny how it's fine for Sweetpea to agree that Wayne should retire, but not for me to say the exact same thing, presumably because I have never boxed (apart from at primary school, where I was taught by a priest!), I should not dare to suggest that McCulloch should retire.

Irrefutable logic.

Two rights make a wrong in this instance. It could be irrefutable logic, but I think the dictionary will tell you that the right spelling is write.

In all fairness James you are a poster here like us all, and I too am pissed constantly hearing how you're a writer, and this and that, and now I'm writing for this site etc...well then goto that site.

I do not constantly tell people on here what I do , at every given opportunity, you're using this place as a walking advertisment, either that you're just real proud of your job.

Anyway internet journalists are ten a penny, anybody can write for sites like eastside.......no????

And most eastside articles are biased, show onsidedness have bad grammar and would not be let onto a magazine.

who cares if he is a writer everyone is allowed an opinion. this guy seems to actually give a crap about the sport unlike many pricks on forums who make stupid comments like roy jones jnr is a bum. anyway, on the topic i still think wayne could figure in the world super bantam weigt scene - if u look at his losses two fighters were right outta the top draw morales hamed. the zaragoza loss was a close thing - i thought he won. and as for scott harrison - i know harrison isnt in the same league as say morales but wayne style was made for harrison and he is probably the strongest featherweight out there.

So what's your point?

I am interested as to how you would make others aware of where your work is being published WITHOUT REFERRING TO WHO YOU WRITE FOR!?

If you don't like his stuff don't read it!

If you don't like the fact he is proud of his job -don't read it!

If you think his work is "ten a penny" - don't read it!

What a hollow post.

Just smelled a little of sour grapes to me!

No doubt as " Anyway internet journalists are ten a penny, anybody can write for sites like eastside.......no???? You would like the opportunity to tell us all who you write for - I am assuming that was the point of your post - there doesn't seem to be another.

(Sorry James I am sure you can defend yourself - but I am so bored at work today!)

Err, where do I constantly go on about being a Writer? If I do, it's news to me. I am not coming here to 'advertise' my 'job' as you put it. I came here because I was invited on by someone to contribute.

The only person who mentioned on this thread that I was a writer, was Mr angry himself Sweetpea, i fail to see why. All I said was that I agreed with allegedly that McCulloch should quit, and then I get subjected to a tirade of abuse, despite merely echoing someone else's opinion, and the opinion of most other people on the thread, somewhat bizzare if you ask me, and smacks of someone with an axe to grind.

And as i said earlier, I don't write for eastside, I write for maxboxing, but of course, that is just me advertising myself isn't it? As for being proud, maybe a little, but fornicate it, I'm only human, I enjoy doing it, and enjoy that some people enjoy what i write, where's the crime there.

Nowhere on here have I made out my point of view is any more important than anyone elses, so I don't really see what you have to get pissed off about quite frankly. There are certainly posters on here more knowledgable than me in various areas, and I don't slag people off for their opinion.

Anyone else pissed off at my being a pompous arse, then let me know, it's certainly not intentional, and it's certainly not because I feel myself to be superior to anyone else here.

I think some people here are either very highly strung or have totally misinterpreted my motives for being here.
