He was tough and exciting and didn't deserve to die the way he did.

I was on a baseball team with his younger brother - wow, long time ago!
My understanding was that he was fooling around with a mobster's daughter who was married, was warned and didn't listen. I also remember he lived for something like 9 months in a hospital bed before dying. No one would deserve to die the way he did. But, if the story is true, he should have taken the warning.
