where did u here that mate? no sure how it works at terrys, he runs an amature club but trains the pros during the day. so no sure what he takes of the pros.

Good to see Appelby going back to Featherweight I never thought he was big enough at SFW. Sad news for Arthur he's such a good talent hopefully he finds a new trainer and gets on to the domestic scene soon.

Sorry if this is based on personal issues for AA but please insert my usual joke about trainers and JD Sports at your leisure.

Ive been a fan of Arthur for years and I think he's been unfortunate in his career in terms of the many years he waited for world title shot. In his last few fights hes looked slow and lethargic. Even against Cook he didnt look interested. Whatever it was that was once drove him, its gone. Hope I'm wrong!

Well i hope Alex and his family are ok; he gets a lot of stick on the forum but he was a great fighter in his pomp; one of the most talented Scotland has ever had thats for sure.

Can anyone give anymore information on this? Poor Alex- what a fighter he could have been. Best Fundamentals i've seen in a British boxer for a long time- bar his inability to block left hooks.

Terry is probably pissed off with not getting paid, I seem to remember Jim McDonnell taking AAA to the BBB of C for not paying him for like 3 fights... More coaches than National Express - no smoke without fire!!!

i dont know what's going on in his personal life but hope everything becomes ok... but he was only ever european class max & seemed to have that arrogance that was dismissive of his own class.

I disagree, I thought he was potentially world class. Really did. He boxed lovely.

I'm an ild git and can remember a little piece in Boxing News amateur section saying he was one to watch; he must have been 12 or 13 years old. He is a class boxer but has a fair bit of wear and tear; I imagine he is comfortably off and the money does make you softer. A class boxer who did not do as well as he could with his talent, though I am sure he's strong and has the faith to come through his latest difficulties.

He was never great it's a word used far to often regards to sportsmen these days, This guy could not hold a candle to the likes of Lynch,McGowan, Buchanan,Watt, & plenty more given the time for the old memory to kick in, at best he was an OK boxer

Arthur, although talented...was never a 'great fighter' .. in his head he was, but his brain wrote checks his fists and chin could not cash. Alex was a decent fringe world level fighter, not a bad achievement i know, but certainly not as good as he could have been, in my opinion.

I couldnt believe the total bullsh*t he came out with when he was comprehensively outclassed by Nicky Cook.

The sap was banging on about "well done to Nicky, he was the better man tonight. Im going to bring my mrs and were all going to go out for a meal." during the post-fight interview.

And then the next day, he said he was robbed - and it's because the judges were English !

I simply thought you complete and utter whopper ! giving a man props (deservedly) and then stating that he got robbed by the English judges the following day.

Arthur at his best was several leagues above Cook. Arthur was barely interested the whole fight, he never looked motivated or vicious the way he used to be and the fight was still close-ish. He should've stopped a fighter like Cook. Arthur waited too long on Guzman while at his peak and the Gomez loss was appalling timing. Hes barely fought in the last few years and is just so rusty demotivated that you cant see a way back for him.

Agree with everyone else that theres more to the McCormack situtation than meets the eye. Either he thinks Arthur is done or a time waster imo.

Scotland amateurs hosted N. Ireland today for a home International in Edinburgh.

Alex was there, Terry was there, there never looked as if there was any bad blood between them. Alex presented some of the trophies, got a great reception from the crowd, and at one point got into the ring alongside Kenny Anderson and Ken Buchanan for a photocall for the crowd.

I've got that issue right next to me here... about 1993?

From the top of my head it'd be around that time Jeff; think i can remember there was a photo though it may be my imagination. (18 years ago!)

Arthur at his peak as ebu champ he was very impressive alot was expected of him but it never really happened. He won the WBO title out the ring then lost it in his first defence in a very poor showing against cook. He's gonnae struggle to get meaningful fights at lightweight he's got tae be realistic. A British or ebu title would set him up nicely.

He really ought to consider packing it in.

In his head he's world class, but he was clearly beaten by European class Nicky Cook in supposedly a gimme first defence of a title that was given to him.... and more recently he was clearly outpointed by Nigel Wright, a man who's lost several times when trying to win domestic titles.

If he was to carry on and win the British title that would be a very good achievement for him - I'd favour most of our top lightweights to get the job done, some by stoppage.

I agree the likes of Murray and Mitchell and probably Rees would beat this version of Arthur. Murray would beat him with ease i think but who knows? He's defo nearing the end o his career.
