Chop Chop - Down Down

Corley down an IMMENSE 8 (eight) times in his fight last night.

That got me wondering. Has this ever been repeated, or even surpassed in British or international boxing? It just seems incredible. Imagine how far Corley was back on the cards. 15-16 points? Fecking weird.

And Corley should've stopped fighting a long time ago.

It wasn't unusual to have that many knockdowns in some old-time fights. Pre-60s, say. They let fights go on a lot longer back then.

As for Corley, can only imagine the majority of them were flash knockdowns.

Danny O'Sullivan was floored 15 times against Vic Toweel in his bantamweight world title fight.

Dennis Andries was down about 6 times against Tommy Hearns as was Primo Carnera against Max Baer, maybe more - is this not elementary stuff every boxing fan should know? :-?

Some of the knockdowns was Corley taking a knee to get a breather, the final knockdown wasn't cause by any punches, he was again on the ropes, ducked down took a knee and the ref waved it off.

It wasn't a bottle job , just couldn't take the pressure coming from Lucas Matthysse. Time for Corley to find another line of work, he's been a brave boxer in his career, but has less and less to offer.

Well, none of that happened in my life time either - I knew it at 14 and it was through reading books! :geek:

Putting my Stato hat on ,

Most in this country for a 'world' title was 16, that was how many times Bill Ladbury knocked down Bill Smith
closely followed by Benny Lynch toppling Jackie Brown 10 times in their bout, oddly enough both fights were at flyweight.

Max Baer knocked Carnera down 11 times.

What about knockdowns in 1 round, Jack Dempsey v luis Firpo , 9 knockdowns!! Dempsey 2- Firpo 7

And? I like boxing, that doesn't mean I have to be a student of the game. I guess you're a "I know more than you" type of person then? Shame that.

Well, call me strange but I would have thought most boxing fans would study the history of the sport more, thats all. Thats how you can sniff out hype from a 100 yards. :geek:

Firstly, you're not strange, just simply different from me. And secondly, I believe I know my fair share of knowledge, but because I "didn't read boxing books at 14" that doesn't mean I "can't sniff out a hype-job from 100 yards". I'm sorry to keep quoting, but you're making vastly incorrect assumptions.

:TU:

I only took up boxing 3 or 4 years ago, too. If you don't believe me check my first few posts on here. I sounded like DG with dementia, whilst having an epileptic fit. I knew fornicate all.

Wilfredo Gomez had someone, who's name I can't remember, down 5 times in a round. He was struggling with him until that colossal 4th and KO'd him in the next!

See, numptiness personified I once was. I've slightly improved. And I believe I said I lived there when I tried a bit of amatuer boxing, which was correct.

Are you a pakeha, Dioufy? Or are you Maori? Interesting coincidence, my daughter had a pet fly (age four, anything that hangs around for more than 10 minutes is a pet) and she called it Dioufy. I had never heard of that name before then, or since, up until now.
