PPV Numbers for Mundine v Wood

WHEN Garth Wood worked as a brickie's labourer, a garbage collector and a cleaner, he couldn't afford to take his family on flash holidays.
Yesterday, he stepped back into the gym to prepare for a rematch with fallen champion Anthony Mundine, having just returned from Hawaii, Las Vegas and Disneyland courtesy of the prizemoney from his stunning win over Mundine in December.
Wood's manager has been negotiating with the Mundine camp since the new year and an announcement on a date in April and a venue for the rematch is expected within 48 hours.
The last sticking point is that Mundine wants the fight on the Gold Coast but the Wood camp is pushing for Sydney to fight in front of his army of hometown fans.
The former South Sydney footballer can't wait to step into the ring again, now fully refreshed from his family's first overseas holiday.
"I promised the kids we'd go away if I won the fight," Wood said. "It was a fantastic break, but I'm back in the gym today.
"I'm as hungry as ever and I'm looking forward to whatever comes up this year."
Once a huge admirer of Mundine, Wood no longer has much time for the fading world champion or his manager Khoder Nasser.
And he's not saying that to create hype and ticket sales for the bout against his former friend and idol.
"It's not the same as it used to be," Wood said. "And that's the way it has to be when you're fighting someone. Doing deals with them can be a real headache.
"They don't want the fight in Sydney because they think they'll get more pay-per-view customers if we do it somewhere else.
"But we're both Sydney boys and the fight has to be here where there's so much interest. All the people who don't like Mundine will turn up and support me like they did for the first fight.
"And those who don't turn up will buy the fight on TV because they want to see me beat him again.
"There are a couple of points that need to be sorted out, but we should have a deal done within 48 hours."
The fight is expected to net Wood a pay packet of close to $1 million from ticket sales and pay-per-view customers.
It's a far cry from the salaries he'd been earning over the last decade in various other jobs.
"I've been a brickie's labourer, a garbo on Marrickville Council, I've worked on the wharves and I used to be a cleaner," he said. "I really want to use this next fight to set myself up for a world title and the bigger paydays."
Mundine versus Wood I attracted 18,000 home viewers. This time they're hoping for 40,000.
Former world champ Jeff Fenech, who was in Wood's corner for the first fight, has no doubts the former Rabbitoh can do it again.
"In fact it will be much easier," Fenech said. "Mundine is going backwards and Garth is going forwards.
"He's got a lot of improvement in him.
"Garth has done it once and he'll do it again."
so 18,000 buys does $900k and 40,000 buys does $2,000,000...always wondered what sort of figures a mundine ppv show generates. of course on top of this you have clubs and pubs paying a couple of grand to show it

Then go and half it - MainEvent take a 50% split. Some promoters pay for TV Production (approx. $80k). As I understand, Boxa do not as they have been a cash cow for MainEvent from day dot. Correct though about the pubs/clubs, however Boxa's pub/club presence has been in decline for 18months. It's there, but no where near what it was early in his career and/or when he was fighting someone decent in recent times such as Green or Geale.
Promoter obviously keeps gate receipts also (although Boxa have never viewed this as the main source of revenue)

Don't they give away half the tickets?
Wow thats a lot better than i thought, it's no wonder his resume has been what it has.
Agree PST, it's clear that the pubs have really lost interest, i have on a couple of occasions attempted to count the venues shown both Mundine and Greens, Mundine does really well in Sydney and struggles everywhere else, with about 75-90 venues shown nationally, so multiply that by $2000.
18000....... wow.

Holyfield/Tyson were up around the 50 k mark for PPVs in Australia. 40k for Mundine wood is a bit optimistic...20k more realistic. Nationally Pubs/clubs average out to about 100. Pricing for Mundine/Woods will roughly be between $800-1200 ea...now all you promoters/event managers go do your figures

Some venues, to make it cost affective, enter into 12 month contract & show everything & anything on Main Event ppv - If requested by attending guests.
e.g. I rocked into local RSL to watch Mundine/
Medley. The joint didn't make song 'n dance out of it. It was prepared to put it on for me on one of large TV screens I selected in TAB bar.
Needless to say, I was the only viewer

Interesting..... Tua V Cameron home buyers alone 89 000 buys in NZ T... This excludes clubs, pubs, hotel's and RSA's (and Oz PPV which was less than 7000ish) Fark me....SKY want to charge punters 29.95$ for SBW headliner .....fark! compare that to Pacman cards cost 24.95$ which are of quality....Farkx100 me!!!!!

shit 89,000 is heaps for little old NZ.
aus = 20,000,000
nz = 4,000,000
so oz basically has 5 times the pop of nz...89,000 x 5 equates 445,000. what did mundine v green do?

yeah for NZ it broke all records but it was a one off...everyone talked about it and wanted to see it although it was a gross mismatch and all. Mundine V Green will dwarf it i guess.....

What's bullshit about them DV?
The report in the other day's Telegraph quoted 18k PPV buy's (homes)
Mundine vs. Geale did 44k buy's (homes) when they fought so I suppose re-matching Mundine vs. Wood you'd have to project 30k as a realistic target I would have thought?

Mundine vs. Green - 115k ppv's (Homes)
+ Pubs/Clubs
Green vs. Jones Jnr - 100k ppv's (Homes)
+ Pubs/Clubs

Keep in mind at $29.95 vs $49.95 and the Aus dollar is quite good at the moment. Wow Rogue at that price i would buy every card, $24.95 for Pacman cards thats realistic.

The May fight at Aussie Stadium saw the boxers pocket a combined $10 million and enabled Mundine ($6.25 million) to become Australia's richest home-based athlete.
The bout was one of the most anticipated in Australian boxing history, and was thought to even eclipse the attendance record of 37,000 when Jeff Fenech fought Azumah Nelson in their rematch in 1992.

I think who ever had the gate cleaned up, RJJ was even in attendance as well as other very well known atheletes and Celebritys.

Tua V Cam home buys were 39.95$ and pubs and clubs paid up to 3900$.... Can't compare Tua V Cam purses to Green V Mundine nor the gate receipts. NZ is far too small a market and Mundine V Green would dwarf most events.
Pacman cards are a bargain over here.... just that PPV guys haven't got shit together and don't understand boxing and the fan base
Get this...SBW next card is 29.95$ Wrestle Manina is 19.95$ LMFAO.....

I hate the fact that Green and Mundine could outdo Fenech and Nelson in any way shape or form

I work at a pub and the manager said it cost $900 to get the mundine wood fight on I wonder how many pubs bought it

Boxa are going to make a killing off SBW fighting on main event! so far there are
2297 buys from pubs and clubs!Paying out SBWs contract was a smart investment by Khoder.
That amounts to $2,067,300.00 in revenue with a 50% cut to Boxa! thats not even including PPVs home subscription!

absolutely..... SBW is a cash cow at the expense of boxing. SBW taking a shit on PPV will attract huge numbers from pubs and clubs... all hail Khoder and the business matrix, albeit at the expense of "real skilled" boxing.

Of course I am

Mate my best mate years a go use to run a pub, and i can assure you Mundine was charging a lot more than $900. Understandably he always charges twice what he's worth.
