Broadhurst believes he will thrive in new environment

By matt panter sports reporter
ERDINGTON super-flyweight Don Broadhurst is to work with former WBU middleweight champion Anthony Farnell as he bids to get his boxing career back on track.
Broadhurst – who has lost his last two pro fights – has split with coach Richie Woodhall due to the latter's work commitments elsewhere.
The two will remain closely linked, but Broadhurst has now turned to Farnell for support.
The Manchester-based trainer is chief custodian of future stars such as Frankie Gavin and Tony Bellew and, as a professional, won WBU titles at middleweight and light-middleweight in a 37-fight career which brought 33 wins, 20 by knockout.

Broadhurst said: "This is the start of a new challenge for me.
"Richie is no longer training from my gym in Birmingham because he has a lot of work commitments this year.
"It's sad because we have become good friends and always will be.
"He's someone I have a lot of respect for, but I know he's always on hand to offer me advice and support.
"I will certainly be taking on board all the knowledge I have gathered from him and I will still have the support of people at my gym in Birmingham.
"But this is a new challenge for me now and I'm looking forward to a fresh start.
"I want to go forward with my boxing career – the last year or so it's gone stagnant.
"So I'll be working up in Manchester with Anthony Farnell. I have worked with him before and we have a good relationship.
"He trains the likes of Frankie Gavin and has instilled a winning mentality within the gym up there.
"That's the kind of environment I want to thrive in. It'll be good to mix with the lads up there and bounce off them."
Broadhurst is expected to return to the ring on March 12 or 19 and will head to Manchester six weeks before his fight to step up preparations.
He is determined to return to his best after suffering defeat in his "winner takes all" British and Commonwealth title battle with Bristol's Lee Haskins in December 2009.
His solitary fight of 2010 also ended in an International Masters bantamweight title points defeat to Najah Ali.
"It's time to draw a line under the last year and I'm ready to kick on now," he said.

Amazing how so many fighters change trainers after a defeat or poor performance.

To be fair on Don this isnt his decision Ritchy can only get to the gym three days a week now and for championship level its not enough.
They had a chat and sorted it like gents Dons still at the gym(hes a personal trainer get booking those sessions) every day till he goes to do his final stuff in mancs and ritchy will still help all he can just doesnt beleive he can commit enough time that he needs.

Was this the reason for he last 2 loses as Don was being tip as one of the young star's to watch by all, I could not believe his showing in the Haskins fight. I had a big bet on him to win that inside 9 rounds. Hope he can get his act back together under
Anthony Farnell who is making a name for himself up their in the north.

No i dont think so Ritchy pretty much gave all the time needed for last two altho a couple of times in Ali build up he had to work with GB squad. This time tho more was scheduled and ritchy and Don just had a meet and spoke about it to work out the best for Don.

Haskins is a tricky southpaw to add to Don having an off night, and he displaced a rib early on against Ali. No excuse, but some kind of explanation.

I'm from the same manor, and we have many mutual friends. I hope he can achieve something in the pro's.

Yep Haskins is awful, no wonder they are struggling to get him fights, TV won't want much of him after the stinkers he's been in and other boxers won't want to face that awkward horrible style of his. So I feel Broadhurst has some excuses, but he has looked not much above average so far so he will have to start showing something extra, some new skills or a bit more bang before I feel he can make a dent at title level.

Great Am, and aint done bad in the Pro's so far.. Haskins is any Nightmare to fight and Ali is an Excellent boxer so no shame in losing to any of them. Could he make Fly ? He is small..

Arnie Farnell in my view is an excellent trainer who gets better and better.

Bellew has made a mistake leaving him and no matter who trains with - unfortunately he will need to strengthen them whiskers!!!
