I am a big Duran fan. I think it was amazing how well he did at age 37 against a guy who was almost a light heavy in size - Duran even had the only knockdown of the fight!!

But, I watched the fight the other day on youtube and in my opinion, Barkley clearly won.

What's your opinion?

114-113 Duran, nothing clear imo. Several very close rounds that could have went either way.

Fair verdict, from memory --- although I've not watched it in a good few years. I can't remember ever thinking Barkley won it hands down, though.

Duran definitely won. He worked harder in the less eventful rounds than Barkley and the knockdown in the 11th, and a clearcut last round, made it his.

There's probably no one on the forum who enjoys seeing Duran lose more than I do, but I scored the fight last Fall I believe, and I had Duran pulling it out by a point in the final round.

I had Duran winning when I first watched it, but in subsequent viewings it was very close and could have gone either way. I'm not sure how anyone could think that either guy won it by a decent margin, but much of boxing is very subjective.

I was huge fan of both guys. Barkley was one tough SOB.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. When I said, "clearly", I wasn't suggesting dominating. I scored the fight the same as the one judge who scored for Barkley. Perhaps I was influenced by Barkley being without money now and I feel sorry for him.

Duran, on the other hand, seems to have become a rolly polly guy enjoying his life. I am happy for him!

from memory i had Barkley *just* outworking Duran in the early-mid rounds and winning by a point

i certainly thought the wide scores in Duran's favour were a little unfair on barkley, who may well have fought his best ever technical fight that night.

Why don't you like Duran?

Duran won that fight. The fight was a brutal slugfest. The 11th round did it for Duran.
