Very loud boxing gyms

Hi everyone,
Hope this is the right forum for this topic - I've done a search and couldn't find this mentioned previously.
I have just started doing boxing training after being a boxing fan my whole life (I'm 30). Even though I'm just starting out I absolutely love it.
I have been doing technical training rather than fitness training and its with boxing coaches rather than fitness instructors or personal trainers. I really appreciate the detailed knowledge the boxing coaches bring.
I have tried two different gyms here in London. However, although the actual coaching has been brilliant I've found both gyms to have music so loud that I really struggle to hear what the trainers are saying. Even when I can hear them I find it hard to concentrate on my work due to the bar-loud music. And thats not even mentioning the hearing damage I would probably get over time when my ears are ringing coming out of these places.
I fully appreciate that boxing gyms are, by default, loud places with lots of machines and bags being used at once. I love the noise of the bags etc in gyms. However I feel that having very loud music on top makes it hard to understand anything. I don't want to ask the people running the gym to turn it down really as im new and others obviously like the music. If it was a standard gym I was going to just to keep fit on my own i'd wear earplugs or headphones but obviously this isnt an option whilst being coached. I think the fact that both my trainers have been old guys who speak very softly hasn't helped.
Is this situation normal, or should I be able to find a gym that although loud isn't so loud that I can't hear instructions?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Cheers
