Quote: "Devon Alexander puts his WBC and IBF light-welterweight belts on the line against WBO champion"
Anyone notice something wrong about the above statement? Devon Alexander was quite publicly stripped/relinquished his IBF title when he agreed to fight Bradley.
I know that many of you will be thinking so what? Stop being so pedantic etc. and I'm not the sort of person that goes crawling through boxing archives looking for factual errors but it really does annoy me when so called boxing experts get important facts like this wrong. It's a pretty glaring mistake as far as I'm concerned.
Especially as I recall it being fairly biggish news at the time that most of us would have been aware of. Additionally I'm pretty sure that a google/boxrec search would have highlighted this immediately.

The majority on here, myself included, think Hart is a joke. He's caught in the 70s, his writing is terrible and he comes across as arrogant, ill-informed and embarrassing.
They should get some new blood writing that column

In 20 years from now, that will be Steve Bunce!

Opinions, opinions....I made two bad rushed errors in the 1,500 words I did on Weds in the Independent about the state of the heavyweight nation...I got a month wrong and a year wrong.
It happens, I hold my hands up.
Colin belongs to a great time that stood still...I belong to an even better time that moves...Froch is a great British fighter in any era...our amateurs now are brilliant...we have depth...they all get paid more money...I move and it will be the same in 20 years, trust me.
Never confuse me with people that live in history, never.
Adios.

Steve - Have you got a Google alert with the key words 'Bunce', 'Boxrec' and 'Harrison' :)

PS You, as 'you' put it, also belong to an age where the best heavyweights are avoiding each other, sadly...for reasons known only to themselves.
Never mind, we appreciate how you've pushed hard to keep boxing on the TV and in print...keep up the good work Buncey!

Ali avoided Foreman...Patterson avoided fighters....Marciano retired before meeting somebody not collecting his pension...Cribb only gave Molineux a rematch when Molineux was sick....Spinks walked away from the belt to fight Ali a second time...Lewis never met Bowe...Tyson and Lewis was six years too late....these modern boys never invented this mess!
We know why they are avoiding each other: They make money elsewhere, it's that simple.
Take a look at the piece in the Indy on Weds - the piece with the two errors!
No, I have no alert but on Friday I write for Sunday papers so I'm online!!
Adios.

have to say i wouldnt put Steve and Hart in the same breath, Steve cares bou the game as it is Hart just wants to belittle it and harp on at how good it was in his day.
As old folk that emit piss tend to do.

Modern heavyweights didn't cause this mess, but they're doing nothing to correct the situation, therefore they're just as culpable as the old 'uns.

Tyson was a saviour - he sorted things out for about three years.
Adios.

Yep, but when someone dominates like that, they leave only their leftovers behind. The division takes longer to recover, the Middleweights after Hopkins or Heavyweights after Lewis for example.

Its proffesional boxing. Its all about the money.
Agree on Colin Hart though. Amazing that somebody who has been so close to the game for so long can know so little. Getting a date or a number wrong is to be expected now & again ..we is all human.
But Colin Hart seems to know as much as my wife about boxing .. and she once asked why Tyson never fought Naz ..

Ali didn't duck anyone around his weight class, neither did Frazier, neither did a peak Tyson..he wanted to unify.
Lewis fought all-comers, as did Holyfield. Bowe didn't.
Always been a problem, but the well ran deeper than it does today, a lot deeper.
These guys can't even decide on a figure, they're a joke.
Tainted legacies...

Yes it's poor form and lacks a lot of angles.
It's just a bite sized boxing news bulletin by the look of things though.
If I was afforded some lines on the Bradley vs Alexander fight, I would certainly avoid dropping Amir Khan "I will unify with the winner" comment completely - simply because they have a REMATCH clause inserted into the document at Shaw & King's insistence.
Also originally the WBC title was not on the line for Bradley, it would become vacant. Although all the interested parties involved are trying to reach an amicable situation to allow the title to be collected by Tim, should he be the victor. I believe Bradley has put an olive branch out to Jose Solied Man at the WBC to oil the decision in his favour.

Ali ducked Foreman - Frazier met two bums in easy defences after beating Ali - Lewis did NOT fight all comers...jesus, where are you getting your history from? Avoiding and waiting is a time-dishonoured traditions, trust me.
The present mob will have light legacies but please don't try and re-write history to prove a point.
Adios.

Presumably he means a rematch? Although it was a conclusive result so I never understand that, you're supposed to win the first time.

Ali ducked Foreman when? After the Rumble in the Jungle I presume?
Aaah yes, Muhammad Ali, who forever will be known as a man who ducked a challenge!
And name a fighter from the 19990s/2000s in the heavyweight division that Lennox Lewis should have fought and didn't? Bowe is the only one I can think of, and that was Bowe's doing. Ike? Well, he went to prison before we got to see how far he could go.
We know it's a time honoured tradition, the argument is that it happens a lot more now and there are fewer decent heavyweights about.

PS Stander only had one loss in 26 before fighting Frazier for the world title and held a KO win over Earnie Shavers.
He'd have been a champion these days

OK...history lesson ladies:
Foreman got it wrong in Zaire. In the years that followed he chased Ali and took out full page adverts in New York Times and other papers and was the subject of a front page at Boxing News begging Ali for a rematch. Ali was busy with Dunne, Spaniards and stuff like!
Lewis and Tyson was late by five or six or seven years. Lewis and Holyfield was late. And, Bowe not fighting Lewis or Lewis not fighting Bowe was bigger at the time than Haye and Klitschkos making excuses, trust me.
You need to read contemporary newspaper reports - try my stuff in the Daily Telegraph for Lewis.
Stander...you serious?
It's been a long time on here since I had to talk to such a fornicating dimwit.
Now fornicate off and look up some papers and get an education you tosser.
Adios.
