It's fairly obvious which side the majority of us are going to side with. I mean, it's wrong for Khan to say he doesn't want to give McCloskey 50/50 in a rematch if Paul spanked him. That's just pure greed - his main focus if he got beat should be to get his belt back, not to try to take the majority of the purse. Again.

I heard £35k.

If that's double his highest offer then I'd say yes.

Not £17.5, though. Probably £17.5k.

This is starting to become a very common theme with khans teams,the first offer khan made to malignaggi was supposed to be derisory and then you had maidana saying they were trying to pay him peanuts and now they've given ariza the boot and finally this!I struggle to see a khan vs bradley/alexander winner if this is how they're negotiating.

I was starting to believe in Khan after Maidana, but he just seems like hes only bothered about money and keeping his record, not likeing how hes going, starting to irritate me again

"Twice the figure Paul has made before" suggests his biggest payday, which when written in the way the article has seems to suggest was his previous fight. Barry Hearn contacted them asking for 2.5x this amount (i.e. 5x his biggest payday), but was rejected.

They asked for 20% on sales above the Maidana figures (significantly lower than 200k), but were countered with 25% over 200k.

What seems most unreasonable is the options, Paul getting a cash amount for a rematch, or Khan promoting his next fight. If you lose you should take the hit, not get paid like the champion with all the bargaining power again.

When you consider they would be barely getting paid more, there's a good chance he gets nothing/a small amount from PPV and he isn't free to do what he likes as champ, you can see why they turned it down.

thing is, the non-boxing media hasnt got it in them to criticise Khan for pricing out people... if you dont fancy the fight offer them fcuk all, then they are the ones that turned it down. If khan and co. think the mcloskey fight will do little in the way of money then by all means offer him a relatively low amount, but a rematch with khan as the challenger? thats not even money. i dont agree with all this 'options' and 'future earnings %age' stuff either, if you cant keep yourself in flash cars off your own back, dont try and ride someone elses career too.

There's got to be decent money for a quality boxer such as McCloskey; if after 22 unbeaten bouts and as European Champ boxing for a World Title against a prospective star on PPV you can't get well paid there's no hope.

I originally thought (and posted) that Paul should take the bout regardless of the purse. I imagined that he would have been getting paid a damn sight more than the £35K quoted elsewhere. A bout for a World Title on PPV has got to be worth £100K surely? How much would Amir stand to make? (It seems the richer you get the more you want).

Khan is a talent and seems to have the looks and media following to make him a star. He could have an extended and very profitable career as he is still a young man, He could put himself in the baraket as Dela Hoya/Mayweather but it looks like his entourage are going to mess that up. Some one needs to sit down with father and son and tell them you can have 5 million this year and good bye. best of luck or have 5,6,7, years and 50 million if you play the game right and walk away an all time star.

I agree misticmonk; they're carrying on like Khan won't be about next year, like a smash and grab raid. Khan is still a young man; if I were his adviser (instead of a drunk waster) I'd not skimp on wages, pay over the going rate to overseas opponents and get shut of that Jordan.

In general, it is not just the actual purse - but it is the "options" that are included.

I would imagine a lot of boxers would be willing to fight for the purses offered, but with the kind of options mentioned in this thread it is actually crazy.

why don't they just announce what the purse was ????? if the Khans think it's a good purse then why not tell everyone ????
