I can't remember who he has doing his cuts, it's not Dennie is it?

He should be using Scott Harrison's guy.

I just couldn't believe how quickly he sorted those (in some cases huge) cuts.

It was unbelievable.

I believe Mickey Vann will be doubling up as Ref and also Hatton's cut man.

Ricky doesnt need a cutsman just divine intervention to stop him getting them....

It doesn't matter hugely who his cutman is.

It's Ricky's skin thats the issue, not the person in his corner. Whoever it is can only do the best they can do.

As I've said before, if Ricky ever goes to fight in the US, I have no doubt the fight will be stopped on cuts. It's unfortunate, but it's just 'Henry Cooper' syndrome I'm afraid. It'll dog him in every fight.

Away from the MEN, Hatton is in big trouble now as he steps up the opposition.

Yes, but some cutsman best are better than other, I think had anybody but Williamson been in the Hatton corner against Phillips then he would have already lost.

To say the cutman makes no difference is really understating the difference a cutman can make. Joe Souza for instance contributed to Klitchsko getting stopped by the ineptitude of his corner work, whilst wiping the cut roughly with the towel, he managed to turn the gut from a slit to a gaping wound with a big flap of skin hanging off.

Hatton had a serious cut very early in the fight against Phillips, but his cutman (which i seem to recall is Mick Williamson), managed to virtually prevent it bleeding again for the entire fight.

It's Mick Williamson, he's been in Ricky's corner for at least 2 years now.

Yeah wasn't it Williamson who stemmed the cuts for Hatton against Tony Pep, Jason Rowland and Eamonn Magee? He's one of the best in the biz.

I would go as far as to say, Williamson IS the best. His cutwork when Eamonn Magee challenged Oktay Urkal for the European title in the summer was also exemplary. Magee, like Hatton in the Phillips fight, was badly cut in the very first round.

I would not argue with that Bennie, however i also rate Joe Souza highly from what i have seen of him, was he not the guy who kept Vitali Klitschko's horror gash in check for so long against Lewis?

I dunno, Steve, I thought he made the cut worse in that fight.

I've watched the incident on video several times, and you can CLEARLY see the moment where Souza's downward wipe with the towel opens up the slit into a gash, leaving a flap of skin hanging downward. I see to remember that he was talking to someone else in the corner as he did so, maybe his attention wasn't fully on what he was doing.

Souza may have done excellent work elsewhere, but definetly wasn't one of his better nights work.

That's fair enough, from what i remember it was Souza's decent work that kept the inevitable at bay. I could be wrong it was a while back.

It was a strange one. Some were saying he did a good job, and others said he was awful. The biggest giveaway to me came when the doctor ruled it off. Klitschko, as you may remember, was unaware of what was happening for a few seconds, then jumped off his stool to protest. If you have the fight on tape, watch Souza as Klitschko jumps off his stool. He shits himself. He genuinely thinks the Ukrainian is going to punch him! It tells me even he knew he hadn't been up to par that night.

What constitutes a good cutsman? what exactly makes one guy better at stopping cuts than another? 'vaseline wiping technique', 'effective dabbing' ? it's weird really. someone fill me in.

I've watched that over and over again too, and he doesn't. he dabs the eye with the towel removing the blood and you get your first view of the cut, then he wipes and either smears some blood onto the lower eyelid or simply moves the flap of skin, then he dabs it again and it looks exactly the same as it did after the first dab. he didn't actually tear the skin at all, or at least that's what I see.
