Ian Tims V Michael Sweeney

What is the story behind Ian Tims inactivity? I watched him the night he beat Alan Reynolds for his first senior heavyweight title. I think Tims thought he was going to lose and that Reynolds was going to be too big and strong (nobody wanted to fight Reynolds back then and the heavyweight divison used to be empty, instead we had lads starving to make light heavy or eating to go to super heavy), but a short way into the fight Tims dodged a Reynolds punch and landed one of his own and all of a sudden I think he realised that he had Reynolds measure, after that it was Tims fight.
He has always been a hard nut and in his amateur days he would have murdered Sweeney.
Sweeney is a serious operator these days, he easily handled Jamie Power (a proud fighter that can take a good shot and is always in good shape).

Its a tough one to call for me. On paper Sweeney has the rounds put in as a pro but I have a feeling that Tims has been doing good training in Dublin lately and whenever I saw him fight as a pro he does it right, conserves energy, makes the punches count, keeps it simple, this may be his year.

Dont expect much interest in this thread Broc, there is very little interest in domestic Irish brawls on this forum.

Timsy got injured in sparring in week prior the Sweeney fight in Limerick on the Lee-Thiam card.

He fought a push over on the weekend but at least it got him into the ring. He and Sweeney will fight for the Irish title on the Rigo-Casey undercard.

Tims looks older than his years, think Sweeney should be the livelier of the two though Sweeney has been cursed with his own injuries of late and didn't he miss last weekends show through illness. Has the makings of a genuine grudge match.

verdict; Sweeney

I think Sweeney gets to Tims late after a close fight. Sweeney could make an impact on the Cruiserweight scene if he decides to stay there. He will fight anyone, anywhere give him half a chance.

BUI do not pick the referee dolphill did look at tims on facebook his face is destroyed micheal hasnt a mark, sweeney was bit twice and no warning to tims 16 to 20 punches landed on mikes hips tims was never asked to bring up his punches 9 reporters had sweeney winning, steve bunce had him by 5, the ony person I heard say Mike lost was Philip sutcliffe his cornerman/dolphill who also promotes tims a dublin fighter in a dublin, venue a dublin ref.A discgrace for boxing and questions need to be awnsered

I didnt see the fight but fair play to Tims. I always thought he was a tough fella and I hope that he goes on to be more active and make a few quid along the way.

I was at the fight and although sweeney got through a few clean shots in the last few rounds i think it was a fair result.Tims bossed him for the early rounds and landed plenty of good body shots.

Irish Boxing.com have reported that it was a competitive bout but that Tims deserved the victory. It will probably be on youtube sometime soon and I look forward to seeing it for myself.
I wonder what Paschal Collins will line up next for Tims. If he stays busy he might be very successful.

hardly sweeney didn't wanna know, was breahing heavy from the body shots and kept butting.

I said ringside and ian deserved to win the fight if sweeney didnt think he was fit then why bother fight. You can only beat what's in front of you which is what tims did.

Also in regards of the ref dolphil appointed him and he let things go both ways( headbutts and a bite)

dsagree cleaner heavier punches landed by sweeney every round, tims work in my opinion didnt merit a victory.
