Too bad for Smith. I thought he got a raw deal against Hatton with his father jumping in the ring like a fool. I doubt he had enough to win anyways, but he didn't even get the chance. I always thought a fight between he and Eamonn Magee would be good to decide which of them would get the rematch with Hatton.

Eammon Magee dropped Hatton and caused problems before losing on points - Smith, with or without his father's intervention, was getting hammered by a bigger foe and was on the way out.Zhuge wrote:Too bad for Smith. No way should he has been in line for a rematch-he was just another leightweight fed to the Hatton lion.
Shame that his career has ended on a low note, he was a tidy stylist and a good domestic ligtweight..

Colie Barret v Marcus Lee - cracking 4 round fight, no clinches whatsoever, both landed with big shots throughout.
Thirwall - decent enough performance, slight improvement possibly.
Daws v Jones - Good fight, Daws had to dig a little but showed a good engine.
Rhodes - Exhibition. Jackson landed about 6 head shots the whole fight. Totally outclassed.
Smith v Bosworth - Tough, tough fight. Very close but Bosworth just never stopped coming forward.
Meager v Shephard - Another bruising contest. Thought Meager wanted out a few times but really rallied to take Charlie out of the fight. Meager has good balance and throws nice rangy shots.
Barret v Hall - Found this a bit dull. Hall isn't nice to watch at all. Quite a bit of wrestling but Barret got a deserved win.
Spartacus v Lansdowne (RSF 3) - Big difference in confidence. Lansdowne looked very strong but Spartacus was loose and accurate. Decent performance.

Thanks Real Deal (British boxing) and Kilburn for the fight action and report.
Couple of slight upsets on the card it seems, most notably Bosworth showing that he really going through a good run with this, his best win of his career. I (like Pocket Rocket) was convinced that this was a mistake for Bosworth (given that he's in #1 contendor for the British title) and thought that the skills of Smith will get him a big decision win. However, my one doubt was Smith's heart, he's retired and comeback since the Hatton episode and when fighters do that, their heart will always been questioned.
It seems like Bosworth wanted it more.
Another slight upset (for me) was Barret vs Hall, Barret was an exceptional amateur (as has been well documented) but so far his transition to the pro ranks has been not smooth. I did expect Hall to win this fight, although it was a 50:50 affair. It seems like the decision was just and perhaps Barret can learn from this. I still think he's some way from fighting for any major domestic honours and I don't think beating Hall is any true indicator of how far he'll go. I know it would be a hard match to make but Bambi vs Barrett 2 would be nice. The likes of Ryder, Rigby, Lynes and Mutley would all be good step ups - just to see what level he's at.

The Coleman Barrett result is an interesting one, Barrett looked superb when i saw him stop Marcus Lee inside a round in the London ABAs a few years ago...
