Why has everyone got against f Warren I think he's the best promoter in Britain and he's a decent bloke.

You know, when Mr Warren had his ruckus with BN a few years ago, circulation went through the roof.

I agree,i thought he used to put on mismatches but then he stepped it up and theres other promoters who are defienietly putting mismatches on!He's clearly head and shoulders above every other promoter in the uk and i think his stable and past stable shows that.

Have you ever read his column in the Sun arzilo? Also, he has a reputation for 'protecting' his boxers, getting in ugly legal scuffles etc.

I don't mind him personally, he is excellent at getting his boxers publicity, has put on some great shows in the past and some really good events recently.

My gripe with him is not to do with how he deals with fighters, because if I was a fighter I'd want to be with him, but it's to do with how much bollocks the man talks. I had to stop reading his column because it made me want to go and rape my cat - it's that bad; talk about the jilted girlfriend attitude.

A certain promoter who's been mentioned on here in the last few days protects his fighters more than warren does!

Couldn't agree more. How many times have you heard him say fighter x is the greatest thing since sliced bread when they're with him only to become an over-rated bum when they go it alone or join someone else.

Oh, oh - behave yourself chaps. I had to delete a couple of posts there as for the few seconds they were up they could have been 'legally sensitive'.

This is one of the many answers to the OP's question...

Sour grapes, as the main reason

His column is a joke, the abuse his used to dish out to Audley, Hatton, Haye, Froch and others who were not with him or other promoters was totally out of order.

His boxing knowledge is not that great, just the usual stuff that most fans know.

His careful management and attempts at hype are cringe-worthy. Although to be honest, his match making has been better as of recently although I dont expect to be the norm.

His run ins with BN have demonstrated a man with a bit of chip on his shoulder and likes to throw his weight around and throw tantrums if things are not to his liking.

He is a good business man and wealthy, so I seriously doubt he cares what others think. I know I wouldn't, if I had his money :TU:

After reading most of the negative stuff and agreeing, I've realised just how low I've set my ambitions for the ethics/likeability of a boxing promoter.

I think he does have decent boxing knowledge myself,if he was so inadequate and didnt know what he was doing etc he wouldnt of become the top promoter in the country in my opinion.

No, but you quoted reference to something which could have been viewed that way...

His personal knowledge is stuff you get out of KO Boxing , The Ring or BN....his employees provide him with knowledge, so there is a difference knowing and paying someone to know.

i saw when Ali came over allegedly said in his column Ali was too frail for this sort of thing and that people shouldn't be so selfish of his time...........u know what the accompanying picture was??? A big ol' pic of Muhammad Ali emerging from Ricky Hatton's gym

I think allegedly has his house paid for and money in the bank and he can use his hobby of a "newspaper" column to take cheap ass playground pot shots like this. Comes across real bitter.

In a wider context it always surprises me how fighter X and Y take a promoter to court and basically hate their fcking guts then loads of other fighters are perfectly happy with them, then sure enough, 5 years later they end up parting company/ in court too....

Back around 1998-2003 i hated Warren as a promoter. In my mind he was the man who took boxing from being a household sport, the eubank-benn-watson era into a minority sport in the early 2000's. The lowest point was that whole garbage in the light middleweight scene Warrena nd Sky pushed on us telling us how great these 5-6 guys were, yet they didnt fight each other (until it was too late and didnt mean anything) and turned out to be duds by and large.....since 2006 tho Warren has surpassed himself with big fight after big fight, Calzaghe-Lacey was the turning point.

The thing is Warren has to be credited as the promoter who always put himself in the position of the fighter and allowed his fighters to earn as much for as little risk the guy who was a rare beacon of decency and morality in boxing promotion..........I still think he should have found a way to work with ITV back in the 2000's though.

To be fair though we're only hearing one side of the story which is the fighters

Lefty, I think it's really straightforward. I admire Warren's business acumen greatly, but over the years I've been astonished at how thin-skinned and petty he can appear to be.
As someone commented earlier on this thread, you'd think given his business success and wealth, he'd be able to laugh at some of the relatively trival things that come up rather than responding with heavy-handed measures such as litigation and banning journalists from his shows. Of course, his column also highlights this rather unappetising side to his character as well.
I also feel that he is also guilty of treating his paying customers pretty poorly on occasion, whether that's through a diet of mismatches, or through the lack of decent facilities at shows. I should point out that these are both boxing problems full stop rather than being specific to him - it's light years behind certain other sports in these regards.
Finally, while I also respect the fact that he pays his boxers well and has looked after many of them, the way he has acted over Calzaghe, Hatton etc, indicates a certain level of hypocrisy to me. As a businessman he is perfectly aware that those fighters were entitled to make decisions based on their own beliefs regarding their best interests - it's no different to the decisions that he makes regarding his own business day in, day out. However, when it's them opting to leave him, he prefers to characterise it as a personal betrayal rather than acknowledging it as a business decision.
So in summary, while I respect him greatly on a professional level, I find it hard to warm to him on a personal level. Of course all of this is based on perception as I don't actually know the man, and it might be the case that in person he's a different proposition. But if that is the case, he's got a serious public relations problem....
