Dave Coldwell & Adam Booths Purse Bids

It seems bizarre to me that two people, representing the same company, place bids with a huge difference between them. What is the thinking behind this move? £75000 is a huge disparity.
I have no idea myself but is it possible for Coldwell to withdraw his bid? Would it then be open to bids again or would Adam Booth win with 325,000?

Someone went to the EBU recently and asked a similar question with regards to one of their recent purse bids. The EBU didn't give a monkey's and were at a loss to why the question was being asked.
Here's some information which might be of help to you:
British Boxing Board of Control

Why not ask them? If someone on here says black, someone else will say white. Only they can clarify it for you. Let us know how you get on.

If Coldwell revokes his bid then surely the common sense thing to do is start again, with Coldwell getting a slapped wrist for fornicating people about. It would stop this fannying about. But will the BBBofC do anything about it - like fornicate they will.

Double A and FWP submitted separate bids for Macklin - BArker - which also went elsewhere. Obviously Andy Ayling has been linked to FWP in the past but not sure what he does now?
This appears as though it may be an interesting new tactic from large promotional organisations although i am not sure why it is being utilised. Too clever for me.
Would be interested to know the Board's thoughts on this as it seems to be a new development with no obvious purpose.

Was Coldwells bid on behalf of Hayemaker Promotions or was it in fact a cheeky bid of his own on behalf of Coldwell promotions?????

Theory 1
You'd have to imagine that Coldwells bid went in with Hayemakers knowledge, so did they just orchestrate this so that they had 2 shots at the cherry? it then turns out that they both outbid Frank and Coldwells paying an extra £75,000, so as others have correctly asked what happens if Coldwell pulls out his bid, does it go to the second place bid or back to re-bidding (my guess is that the BBBC's rules on purse bids are inadequate and don't fully cover for this situation)
If Frank would've beat Hayemakers bid and not Coldwells then Coldwell would've staged the show with some assistance from anon. Could this be a sign of things to come, will we start seeing tag team purse bidding?? Will Double AA promotions start making leftfield bids???
Theory 2
Hayemaker and Coldwell are no longer in cahoots and Coldwells put this bid in out of leftfield
Theory 3
........ fcuk it I like Theory 1 too much
Nobody can pull a fast one over Frank in this situation though, because he'll just take Degale out of the fight

Maybe it also buys Hayemaker more time to set up the fight... Dave Coldwell has two weeks now to sort out details, venue etc. Assuming he pulls out, maybe Adam Booth/Hayemaker as the 2nd highest bidder then has two extra weeks to finalise details...
Maybe it also buys them enough time to dick around allegedly so they don't have to fight DeGale, but can still save face...

Very clever move - figure it out.

Spud, I wouldn't call it clever, I'd call it very unethical, at very best, and if stuff like this becomes the norm, then purse-bids will become incredibly undermined. Another black mark for boxing, IMO. God damn promotors - why do they have to be so sly? It's nonsensical, again, at very best.

And for some reason, the smiley of the dude pulling his hair out isn't working on my laptop, so I'd have put that, God allowing.

In response to Spud : I do have my own thoughts on it and they mirror Dioufy's first post, however I had hoped someone with more knowledge of the business than I do could come up with facts. Such as "no, the board will call for purse bids again if coldwell welshes on the deal"or "the precedent is that Booth will win the bids if coldwell pulls/cancels/fucks up his end of the deal" etc etc....
I have not heard back frm the board but will phone them tomorrow. I'm sure they won't be keen to discuss the issue however...

Fed up with the games really, the only thing this tells me is the fight ain't happening, certainly not in the timescale to suit both, so the unsuited party will pull out.
Olympic year may see it happen but not 2011

It's obvious to everyone, but to be honest, we need to watch what we say.

The rules are very clear. If the winning bid pulls out the second bidder has the option of staging the fight within the same time frame and by matching the winning bid or it goes back out.
Varuious bodies have different rules relating to purse offers but the Board and EBU are the same.

Is there a punishment for pulling out? Otherwise it seems like this may just be to waste time/see how much Warren was willing to pay.

Thanks very much for taking the time to clarify that, much appreciated!

Cheers BC ............. so if Coldwell pulls his bid Booth would still have to match the £400,000 bid to stage the fight or it goes back out to tender.
Wonder what Warrens going to do, is Degale Vs Sartison on the cards.

i think that dave coldwell bid high just incase fw's mob had got wind of the hayemaker bid and then had bid slightly higher. (not that that would happen of course, even though fw has bailed the board out financially before!!).

Dioufy - its boxing - you know enough about the sport to realise it will happen time and time again - dont work against it work with it or tolerate it.

Work with it, or tolerate it? Are those my two choices when it comes to this? If that's true then boxing is going down faster than I could ever imagine. Come on, Spud, we put up with a lot, duff match-making, too many world-titles, the best refusing to fight the best, and now this. If I could say wanted I wanted to say about this then I'd get banned. It's wrong on every level, and it just brings the sport into disrepute once again. Do you ever wonder why casual boxing fans stay casual boxing fans? It's nonsense like this from promotors that make the sport intolerable to watch. It's actually getting criminal.
