I think they do because how many fights against bums do you need to be prepared to step up a level?!Surely the thing you need when you initially become a pro is getting used to the 12 rounds and thats basically it aside from that it should be slight steps up in class everytime but that doesnt happen nearly enough in boxing

I think Top level amateurs that turn pro will learn very little against the guys with losing records.
think thsi should eb taken into consideration when matching up.

Yeah dont get me wrong if its a pro prospect who hardly fought as an amateur and didnt win anything at the amateur level then yeah take your time more but alot of these guys who have been olympic and world medallists and ABA champions should be fighting better opposition.

Generally I don't think so, the amatuers are totally different to the pro's and it surely takes time to adapt. They need to get experience in the ring so I think about 15 fights against journeyman or domestic gatekeepers is fair enough.

I think all the lads turning over learn much off of a half decent bum, these lads need to get used to 3 minute rounds , no headgear. Even the real goods lads I've been in with have got a good keep busy fight , obviously they need to step up after really finding their feet in the pros . But not all winning fighters want to risk boxing one another if no title or big money available. So one way or the other the lads need to box their share of journeyman

Well to be honest Johnny i wasnt including you in that as you've boxed alot of prospects coming through and always give a good account of yourselves whereas you get alot of journeymen who get hit once and its a wrap and its a joke.

When a prospect starts out, he has to learn alot the pro's is a very hard game. Some boxers get protected because the promoter etc see them as big money generators, why risk throwing them in too deep, when they can get 15 to 20 fights with easier opponents and earn good money.

The other thing is some prospects just are not that good, and the boxers management want to protect the boxer, so the the boxer can again earn some money and maybe get a title shot of some sort along the way.

I don't mind a prospect fighting anyone in his first five fight unless there's a massive weight difference involved, like one of Fury's first few opponents - I believe he was a small cruiser. But after the first five then surely a better quality of opponent, or at least a different style is needed. Look at Price - nine fights in, nine bums, He probably learnt more in his first fight than all the others combined. Fury's first 6 or 7 opponents is probably the way to go, if you forget the debut. Also, how can the BBBofC not let Botha fight but they let all these Latvians and such in to fight, and get hammered, for quite literally no gain. I enjoyed watching people's career take off, like Fury and Groves. It sets them up nicely for harder tests, if they're good enough. I have no interest in following the likes of Price's career as of yet - that's the difference. And If Maloney says that everyone is dodging him then I'm going to scream - if that's the case, match him with Dallas.

I think price is on another level to dallas skill wise but theres still question marks over prices chin so it would be interesting!
