As disappointing as it is, I'm also a bit glad that the BBBofC control this and are willing to call a fight off because of it. Looks a thin bill now though.

Damn big shame this, was really looking forward to this card at one point. Still got Larry vs McDermott but they desperately need something else as well.

What I find funny is that people were defending this match on the premis that Cook would be in shape, which is obviously wasn't. If he's a lightweight struggling to make welter then he wasn't in shape. I said how could he be ready for Gavin, but certain people were very blinkered towards it.

What now?

Its a poor bill now it really is, needs a big offer to someone to step in and fight Frankie at short notice or not sure where they can go with this bill, Sky seems to be much
harder than normal with the pomoters, I reckon they must be fuming

This could be a blessing in disguise. I am sure Skys budget is more than enough to cover the cost of showing Donaire vs Montiel.

Thing is Chris surely if we were buying something we check it out before hand. Cook was selected to come in and fight Gavin at short notice, did anyone bother to check with him that he could make the check weigh in, you would assume they did but either way its fallen on its arse.

I have no axe to grind with any promoter, its a thankless task, I am sure at times but how can a fight that was on three days ago suddenly be off today due to weight.

I am sure Jason has not been pigging out for the last three days so the problem must have been there when the fight was agreed surely, perhaps I am viewing it simplistically but it don't look good, personally glad I ducked out of buying a ticket to be honest would feel pretty aggreived now.

I dont know the ins and outs but I agree that a paying fan has the right to feel aggrieved. I just think it's down to a number of unfortunate incidents which no one is to blame for.

You'd have to be a bit daft to buy a ticket for a replacement fight only announced 3 days ago? Surely most people got theirs weeks ago based on the original, announced bill?

Probably Cook got the call, he said he could do the weight, then the board checked him out and decided he couldn't. Possibly he could have made the weight in time, but maybe not safely enough for the Board's liking — that seems to be the suggestion if the Board have stepped in.

Gutted for the likes of you Slap, this sport does tend to turn round and kick us in the teeth every so often.

Looked forward to watching that; though if Cook cannot make weight safely it's for the best. I don't know how the bill can be saved for a Saturday nights SKY Sports show; there's another show though at Wembley same night though? They ought to combine the 2 :)

Yes, making McDermott vs Olubamiwo for the Commonwealth title would help make this televised event far more acceptable.

Anyway, upgrading this to the commonwealth title would be an absolute joke, and one of the biggest problems we've got in modern boxing, putting a shiny new label on something and claiming it's something it isn't to sell it to the public.

Is the Commonwealth vacant? i though Chisora had that belt?

Can they not get Gavins original opponent in then have the larry v McDermott fight as the headliner? Its still weak but better than nothing???
