Still the Southern Area belt on the line, presumably.

yeah that isnt worded great, think they are saying that these two are below Fury in terms of standing and that even Fury isnt seen as a contender for it.

on a related note, how does Price get to fight in an elim for the Cwealth without even picking up an area title?

I know Cwealth sits just below British in a lot of peoples expectations but surely in terms of geography and pool of opponents it should go - Area - English/Celtic - British - Cwealth, with CWealth really nudging up against European? This obviously would need a more rigorous approach to matchmaking and enforcing mandatories, but one can drea,

If the Canuks & Aussies were more involved it could but the blue corner for a commonwealth title fight is usually from Accra

Sorry that looked a bit daft - Mr Block was asked about Fury but it looks silly out of context. Amended.

Simon Block wrote:"Tyson Fury is a recognized contender but has no prior claim for a Title opportunity over any of the other recognized contenders in this weight division. David Price does, as he has won an officially sanctioned Eliminator."
He seems to be saying Price should get first shot at a vacated title because he won an eliminator, but Fury didn't win an eliminator so he has nothing to do with the decision to not allow this fight to be for the Commonwealth title.

A clever move by Maloney to do Price in a Commonwealth Eliminator it looks as the the little man has out maneuvered a lot of others in the heavyweight division, We could be seeing Price in a title fight quicker than we think.

If Chisora hasn't vacated....end of.

It's still a decent enough bill topper with the Southern Area title on the line.

Yeah, a bit of a non-story. (No offence, Ian, I know you're just reporting developments). The title isn't even available, and even if it was, these guys wouldn't be allowed to fight for it.

Next week: WBC and IBF knock back Charlie Zelenoff v TBC for their light-welterweight world titles.

Fair play to Simon Block for showing a bit of integrity there, I think. If we're going to bother with titles at all, they shouldn't be handed out willy nilly just to suit the demands of TV.

Why is it only now he has decided to show some integrity????
And surely this is a much better fight than many of the appalling mismatches he has sanctioned

Nobody's vetoed the match or criticised its quality, only denied it Commonwealth title status.

Praise where it's due, once is better than never. But you're right of course, he has sanctioned plenty of rubbish fights far below the standard of Big Larry vs Big John. Maybe this signals a change for the better though, which should be encouraged.

Don't be a c*ck, Oliver. What a completely ridiculous, idiotic analogy.

Before we did the piece, did you know that the title wasn't available and that they wouldn't be allowed to fight for it? If you say 'yes', you're a liar. You only know because we got it clarified from the horse's mouth and nobody else did. Everyone was talking about it being made (even people far more clued up than you) but no one knew the proper crack.

Hardly a f**king non-story then, was it?

The title would have been readily available had Chisora - a Warren fighter - decided to give it up at his promoter's behest. You have heard of this happening before, no? Like, erm, all the time? And you have heard of governing bodies sanctioning unworthy matches before, no? Like, erm, all the time?

Everyone was talking about the possibility of this happening and we clarified everything.

Shiiiiit, I'll tone it down then

Seriously though, as you can tell, this has irked me somewhat. All the way over in Thailand, Oliver was secure in his knowledge that Big Larry and Big John wouldn't be allowed to fight for the title and that Chisora was dead set on keeping his belt whereas a load of insiders (including Dean Powell) weren't sure of this.

The story also had a bit more legs at the time because previously, had they not been able to make it for the title, Sky would have f**ked the card off - as they did with a Hayemaker card recently.

Yesterday, for a few hours, it was the best little story in the trade (for those who follow the ins and outs) until Sky threw their own rules out of the window.

A leading promoter texted me at the time to say it was good info and had got everyone he knew wondering what Sky would do next. (Sorry to sound Spud like there.) It's probably only a non-story for Oliver because he failed to understand it's potential significance - his ignorance thereby making his sh1tty aside all the more galling.

Nah, that wasn't really toned down, was it?

Relax! Indeed it was a ridiculous analogy, which should have been the clue that I was not being serious in my "criticism". I did also include the disclaimer that you were merely reporting developments.

Before you did the piece, did I know that the title wasn't available? Well, in the absence of any news of Chisora vacating, yes I did.

I know there have been a number of instances in the past when a boxer has voluntarily vacated to help his promoter and stablemates get title status for a fight (such as Moore allowing Woolcombe and Portman to go for his British LMW belt), but I'm pretty sure the relinquishing of the title was done before the approach to the BBBC was made.

Again, no offence was intended, and I spelled out that much. I'm sorry that you still took it.

Again, it was not a "shitty aside", it was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek (how could anything that references Zelenoff be anything else?).

And admitted, over here in Thailand I was not aware of the "legs" the story possessed, augmented by me not being on BoxRec for a couple of days.

However this very fact highlights another aspect - that any writer or editor should never assume any reader has prior knowledge of the background to any story.

It struck me as being a non-story. Yes, part of that is me not knowing what preceded it. Do I smack of unprofessionalism in that regard because I took a couple of days off BoxRec? Well, even if I do, there may well have been non-professionals, or more casual fans, reading the site too, and then the background will have been even less known to them.

It may sometimes feel as though the whole of British boxing - both professionals and fans - is encompassed by this board, but Ian, you are a publishing professional and the golden rule is to assume that for any story, publication or website, there will always be somebody reading it for the first time. So if I, as someone pretty clued up about British boxing - even from a foreign country - missed the point, then others will have done too.

Again, I don't mean any offence with any of the above, but if you call me a c*ck then I have to expand on my initial point. Although you may say I could have done so by PM or email, which is true, and if that's the case, then apologies.
